straight edge is a very complicated sub-culture/way of life =/
there’s the militant ones that hate and get violent.
then there’s the rest,
who just sustain from drugs and such for themselves.
straight edge is what you make it, pretty much.

Just as a point of clarification: smoking (tobacco or marijuana), and drinking (alcohol) both fall under the realm of straight-edge, i.e., straight-edgers don’t engage in those activities.
