Man, I wanted to go out Friday in the worst way but my (expletive) supervisor had me tallied for Saturday at Macys. I was sorely tempted but glad I didn’t...as I told ’Tender Kevin Macys put me thru such a serious wringer no way in Hades I’d be sharp for that or last night!
I gets in on the midst of a Solitude set. The floor was empty so after disrobin’ and passin’ of daps and hugs to fellow Quixotees it was on to the floor to warm up near a couple of newbies. I wasn’t sure how the turnout was gonna be but I wasn’t gonna focus on that...I was just blessed to be out and I was gonna make it a point to enjoy myself. Eventually I was joined by the likes of Ladies ’Lynn and Dupree and (I believe his name is) Nelson. We just occupied the floor to give it some life.
Soon the floor began to fill up some so that was a good sign to me. I was later joined by Sir Spiel and his ladylove while John piped in "Pieces", which by now meant was the lead in song for Ron to get hold of the reins. Sure enough, two songs later he does just that and he brought the SureFire. Joined by the Ladies, GI Jeff, Sam, The AnkleBreaker, Josh and a couple of newbies we got a nice KickStomp session. I took the time to acknowledge those who came thru like Os’len Twins (Lady Dead and her sis, Dead Angel) and their peoples, Mz Moira, Lady Krys, The CDE, Lady Better Than and a host of others. By now the floor was pretty full...not packed but nicely crowded. A quality crowd, you could say. From the corner of my eye I happened to see Mz Moira practicin’...a KickStomp move?? Whoa! She was actually learnin’ the basics from watchin’ us! I couldn’t take that cheesy grin off my face! Soon The CDE tapped me on the shoulder to let me know that Pavlov was pagin’ me so a few more songs with Ron and I was Lowers bound.
Since I didn’t get my Edumactional fill I stopped in on The Crypt to take some audio lessons from The ’Solvent. Not very crowded but really, really good stuff, music wise, as always. I noticed Mz Moira on the side and proceeded to show her some basic moves to dance to (this is turnin’ out to be a recurring theme of sorts....I’m kinda likin’ it). She showed me what she remembered from the Kearny party and we "worked" on those moves as well as two more, I believe (which I was rewarded with a bottle of water). Three or four songs into that and I was ready to get my KickStomp on. After makin’ sure Moira was okay I was off.
A few bodies here in The Area where The 5witch was callin’ the shots. Found some open real estate near The Ladies and jumped right into the songs alongside Lady Better Than and her peoples...just so much fun. Eventually the bodies left, givin’ me more space to totally black out on the tiles with Joe (man, I haven’t seen him dance in like a hot minute and change!) as well as occasional random folks...with Moira still practicin’ on the sidelines. Determined woman, she is. I was crazy sweaty but I didn’t care...I was focused on my mission. Twenty minutes later it was time to take a break from all the non-stop dancin’ so I went upstairs to see how Ron was doin’.
The main floor was in full swing...I was s’posed to just chill but went and danced anyways. I got a great comment from Straybox Himself that pretty much amped me up with that extra boost of energy....it totally came from left field and it was truly humbling but appreciated. The night was comin’ to and end soon so it was back downstairs for one last look-see. I took a seat next to a now-tired Moira and made small talk until John played a couple of good cuts, includin’ the song than Ron "made famous" "It’s Too Late" ("yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! yeah! ") as well as my Chrome remix. It was here the lights came on and it was time make for parts Paterson. I gathered my goods, said my goodbyes, gave daps, hugs and kisses, chatted with Bouncer Chris, Gio and Lady Dupree at the door, and I was out.
Now that was a quality night! Big ups to the owners and staff as always. Much love goes out to my fellow Quixotees...there’d be no me without y’all. To my KickStompers, you all did good out there! LOVED it! Of course daps to the AG deejays...great selection of treats, fellas! To Mz Moira...we’ll get it...you’ll see!
Til next we meets...Vynil, out!
