this is probably our first real test. We haven’t played a team with a true super star yet. It will be interesting to see if Afflalo gets a bigger role in this game. This is the kind of situations he was brought here to excel at.

The Trailblazers and Jazz weren’t a test?

I hope you forgot about them.

This is pretty interesting. Not sure if it helps we need to face Atlanta the next night.

lol I hope Karl starts Afflalo over Carter tonight. If Carter begins the game guarding Wade than I bet Wade drops 20 by the end of the first.

Outside of Wade, the Heat don’t have any other players that worry me. Melo and Billups should have good night yet again.

I’m guessing AC still gets the start, but his minutes will be reduced. What I’m curious about is how Miami will defend Carmelo. When he’s played straight up, he can score 40 with his eyes shut. When he’s doubled, he usually stifled.

Nene will need to be a strong scoring option tonight. I would also expect to see minutes from Lawson - not for his D, but for his offense. I like Ty, but it’s becoming clear his future is that of an AI-style PG, not so much a Billups-style. Which is fine with JR on the bench. His role might have to change in another week. Maybe he’s young enough to adjust.

I have a feeling that the nugs might take this game too seriously and look ahead to the next game. This could be scary. I hate the schedule makers!!!!!

I didn’t forget. I felt it was clear that by "test", I meant our test in controlling super star players. We tend to have trouble controlling them when the game is on the line. We didn’t do too well with Roy, but I don’t really consider him a superstar.

Which is why we fans have been screaming bloody murder for shooters on this team. When Carter is on the floor, that is usually when Melo is doubled the most. Melo creates a lot of attention when he drives. If we can get ourselves a fucking shooting bigman, like I’ve been saying for years, there will be so much more room down low for Melo to work with. Instead, if he isn’t doubled, he’s going to be met under the rim by Kenyon’s man. It’s frustrating.

I think the comparison to AI is a bit premature. Lawson has showed that he wants to make the most of his time on the floor. He’s pretty efficient. AI is reckless, and will jack up anything he thinks he can make, which excludes just about nothing. Lawson is smart, and picks his spots. That said, AI could definitely teach Ty a thing or two about finishing over bigmen. As it stands, I have yet to see Lawson really elevate on his layups. It looks like he’s throwing everything from just off the ground.

Didn’t Kenyon sink a pair of threes the other night? LOL... But yes, agreed. One thing LK brought to the team was being able to spread the floor. Maybe Afflalo can be that guy. Certainly JR on the floor would help. Would be nice to have that ability from a big... Is Skita available??

Ty is probably more team-oriented than AI, but it appears he’s not afraid to shoot the ball, either. He’s quick like a Boykins, athletic like a JR and potentially has the court presence of a Chauncey. I’ll have to watch his shots more closely. Not sure how you can teach someone to elevate. The guy is 5’11" on a good day and he’s built pretty thick. I still think he’s our best pickup in a while. And you have to give Karl credit for playing him.

I can hear it now... "Birdman... for three... swish!"

Not a good game at all.

Ugh. I knew that one of these types of games was coming.

I think I underestimated the defense of the Heat. Pretty solid. Melo, Nene, Balkman, and Lawson all looked solid but no one else was doing much.

Yeah it was nice to see that we finished strong. Afflalo has strung together a few nice games now. I’m liking what I’m seeing from him.
