Has anyone got the vaccine yet? I’m getting mine tomorrow since a student of mine came down with H1N1 a little over a week ago. If you get it my rheumie told me that there is both an active and inactive virus version of the injection so make sure you get the right one.

we should never get a live vaccine- we will most def get sick. i wouldn’t get this vaccine personally, it’s not been tested on humans nearly enough. yes, plenty of people have gotten it & no one’s died. but we don’t know if there will be any long term effects/damage. also, if you’ve been exposed to anyone with the swine flu or the regular flu, you’re already building immunity. the vaccine is useless & has a higher risk of making you sick. once you’re been exposed, it has already begun to mutate. the virus has been active for a long time now, before they ever had the vaccine. so the vaccine isn’t really going to be that effective for anyone. it’s only going to be effective for young people, who have a normal immune system. if you’ve had a regular flu shot & a pneumonia vaccine(which is recommended for us & anyone else who’s had pneumo in the past), you should be fairly well covered. i used to work for a vaccine company, i learned alot about the flu & how all vaccines work.

Thanks! I haven’t got the pneumonia vaccine or the regular flu shot this year (I know I’m too late for the regular flu shot) so I will have to see what my rheumie wants to do. I am also going to talk with my other doctors, but two that I have talked to are suggesting I get the vaccine because I tend to have a lot of issues with pleurisy and pericarditis....since H1N1 tends to lead to respiratory problems no one wants to take any chances. My rheumie also is suggesting I get the regular flu shot too since its better to get than not. I do have to wait at least a week between the two shots to avoid any problems. Thanks again!
