Plants aren’t exactly sleepers. They function all night like humans do most of the day. They both breathe the same way of respiration at night. Differentiating dormancy from sleep seems like splitting hairs but dormancy is a state of inactivity wherein the dormant item is effectively aware and will react whereas sleep is a state of unconsciousness and unawareness that is only terminated about as equally sudden but greater force than sunlight, the answer to your question.
Human awakenings are more brisk than plant’s. A plant’s transition from dormancy to vivacity is related to the increments of sunlight in the hours of mid-A.M. whereas human will maintain a relatively stable state of sleep until several hours after the initial setting into unconsciousness. Unlike plants, humans will return back to sleep if awoken and they feel too tired to get out of bed.
