Are you equating happiness with sitting behind a PS3 or X-box. Its an addiction justlike herion or crack. I suppose living in poverty and mooching off your family or "friends" is fine so long as your ok with it and it makes you happy. Gamers addicted to gaming have the same behaviors that drug addicts do. I don’t mind gaming, if it is under control. But 30-40 hrs is addicition. They even have support groups for gaming addiction.
Gaming hypnotizes you. LITERALLY. I effects the neural pathways between the eyes and the brains. The development of the brain. It has the same effect on the brain in many ways as drugs.
I’m sorry to say, but if that boy started gaming at an early age, he probably has not developed emotionally or psychologically beyong that point. If he started heavy gaming at 13 he is still, in all ways but physically 13.

everyone has a responsibility to take care of themself , feed themself and better themself as a person , and if being a stand up person makes them unhappy I say tough shit

Gaming isn’t nearly as bad as you make it out to be. I like many others played video games for 30+ hours a week for a greater part of my childhood/early adulthood, and I matured just fine. I doubt my wife would put up with me if I was still 11 in every way but appearance.
