I’m thinking about starting a new routine where I work out 2 times a day twice a week using heavy resistance during my morning workout and very light resistance in my evening workout. What are your thoughts on this type of routine?

I finally have a light class schedule this semester where I only have one class a day. I’m taking weight training class from 7:30 to 8:45 in the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I pretty much have the rest of the day off. I want to try to use this semester to bring up my legs and back and add some thickness in those areas. During my class, I’m focusing mainly on doing rows, squats, leg press, and I’m trying to incorporate deadlifts in there as well. I don’t have much work out equipment at home except for some dumbbells, an adjustable bench, and a pull-up bar. So, for the evening work out, I’d be doing some light dumbbell lunges, calf raises, pull ups, push-ups, etc. I’m thinking about using only body-weight exercises during the evening workout except for the lunges with maybe 3 sets of 7-10 reps per exercise. I don’t want to run the risk of over training either, but I eat about 7 times a day and get 8-9 hrs of sleep every night so I don’t think that’s going to be much of a problem.

Twice weekly training has never done much for me. I need more frequent workouts to make progress.

if you’re going to train twice a day here are some things to remember.
Eat more
rest more
do heavy stuff in the morning, low reps low sets
high reps are harder to recover from esp the lower body
get plenty of rest between session take a nap, lye down with your feet up
get your diet right, its going to play a major role in the speed of your recovery
