I have neglected this bed because of the other projects I have going on...glad I noticed this before it got too big....it is about 5 ft from the street.

Don’t worry. It’s all gone. Nothing illegal there anymore. =]

Odd a native plant is now illegal. Probally grew from a seed dropped by a bird.

Looks like cleome or vitex...
Allen Burney.... cannabis isn’t native... wikipedia gives Asia as it’s place of origin.

I’ve read that sativa is circumboreal before - although never in a full on respected botanical reference book... I do know that indica is, oddly enough, only from Afganistan - and should probably be renamed to C. afgani, as there is no indica found in India.

I’ve never before heard of this word. And I read a pretty good amount of science/nature.
I wonder if this might ever end up in AWAD. I should email its publisher and suggest it.

From http://www.wordreference.com/definition/circumboreal:
circumboreal: comprising or throughout far northern regions
Isn’t that where Conan The Barbarian originated? Hmmm... Let me google that also...
Nope, that was Cimmeria... In the books I’ve read, it still sounds awfully cold there...

I can’t believe cannabis is not native! I have seen "groves" of the stuff growing out in farm fields. And you can’t mistake that smell... Do you have any idea how tall that stuff can get!? WOW.
So, Stone, you think it’s not what I thought it was? That makes me a little sad. I got all freaked out for nothing. I literally ran to get my camera to snap a few pix so I could pull it before anyone saw what it was. =[

Was a joke...
Yes it’s p-o-t, You did good.
I’ve seen it growing out in your part of the country... walk down the highway... pick the stuff growing along the right of way... Why do you think they call it a high-way?
And yes... back when I experimented with that kind of junk, I wasn’t opposed to an ornamental patch or two... I even had some variegated (cannabis) plants... When they fix the laws, I’d totally grow a plant or two... simply because it’s an attractive plant...
Until then... When little old ladies ask me if I can get them some seed, so they can grow one of those beautiful plants in their flower garden... I regretfully inform them that I don’t even know any pot smokers anymore...

Yeppers, that’s why they call it Iowa ditch weed. Hehe...must be prime growing conditions right now for it because hubby said he mowed down one of em in the lawn under that same tree.

Here’s a picture that has both cleome & vitex...
Cleome is centered, vitex is on the left...

You’ll be supprised what is not native to this country. A lot of weeds you see today growing in your lawn like dandelions are not native to this country, and yes that picture is what you are thinking of.

5 feet from the road it’s probably what’s referred to as a volunteer.
Meaning someone was out driving around cleaning their weed and tossed the seeds out the window.
