With increasing mainstream exposure and turnout for Viva Las Vegas, is the US Rockabilly Rave now the preferred American weekender for the die hards?

Yes...to better describe it, the Rave is the "old Viva"
I noticed at the first Rave:
1. mellower crowd
2. Real music fans
3. better clothes
4. more Euros than at Viva this year
The catchphrase being used to describe it is: "It’s all about the music"

The Rave was awesome, and yeah, it was like old viva.
all about the music!!! BUT with time for actual vacation too!
I liked that the music didnt start until the evening, and they only used one room.
I was totally able to see all the bands!!!
That was cool.
I notice that Tom has bands listed at "lunchtime’ in Brendans for the
rave in october.
Kinda bummin, just because I hate missing bands, but i work 7 days a week at home, so it is nice to have time to do a bunch of nothing during the day. Or to actually see some sights. Anyhow, I’m hoping not to miss any bands!

Not missing anything really was a plus! I liked that we could lounge and recover for all night dancing and fun.

I really liked how people at the Rave were way more into the music and I was loving the fact I could really sleep in. I hate how I miss bands at Viva!

and seriously, some folks who never get the sun, sure appreciated having pool time withou missing bands. HEY, if yer gonna do lunch shows, put em at the pool! hehehehehehe.
During vegas I was at the pool Twice, once to go find some people to bring in to see bands, and once for the way overpacked pool party. The Rave was so nice for us seattle folks who never see sunshine. and especially when ya dont’ have alot of vacation time, it was nice to have music every night, and vacation during the day.
Viva is so not a vacation for me. So much to try to see and do.
Please Tom, keep the Rave low-key. Dont’ turn it into VLV 2.0

Bands at the pool sounds great for the Rave!
Also, I love how the Redwood in LA does Brunch shows (hint hint to any vegas venues!! But Im sure all the night owls wouldnt come out) I saw the Derailers the next day after Nick Curren and it was so nice to just relax and eat and get rid of the hang over! Maybe we could do that at the Rave? I dont know where though... just a thought.
I’m actually more excited about the Rave this year then I was about Viva. I love the line up!

It’s often said that the people there for the Rave are way more into the music, but in all fairness, that’s all there is. So of course they’ll be more into the music, without the distractions of fashion shows, two burlesque events, a car show, way more vendors, and multiple rooms of bands, well, yeah.

Ya, Rave in the new fav. I didn’t mean that to rhyme, or did I? Everyone seemed so much more genuine and friendly. I didn’t feel like I might get beat up if I leave the ballroom. No tough guys is a real plus! It really is all about the music. Now, say it with me.......NO CAR SHOW.......EVER! Don’t change a thing Tom. The first was amazing. If it aint broke don’t fix it.

Wolli! aside from you, Jutta, bands, DJS and some swedes, I didn’t encounter hardly any europeans at Viva this year! Was I just working too much?

I didn’t run into the Europe group I usually bump into. I think it could have been that the venue was more spread out because I missed a few of the norms and had to hunt for a some friends. I ran into the Swedes- but they are a little hard to miss (haha).

I really don’t understand people saying "No Car show!" I have an old car and it seems to go hand in hand with the rockabilly scene(music.) Also I don’t see why it would keep you from doing what you like. This is a great way for people of all likes to come together...you can always find small lowkey concerts. Good big rockabilly get togethers are extremely rare and we shouldn’t have to limit certain things to certain events. One time a year sucks for us car AND MUSIC lovers. Stop hating us car guys please...were not all "tough guys":)
