Ghost Patrol

I can sense a ghostly presence.
Some weary soul still lingers here.
I detect no malevolence
I do not think you need to fear.

Death took the lady by surprise.
And therein lies the tragedy
The lady does not realise
that she is dead apparently.

That’s why she stays, she does not know.
Why she can see but not be seen,
or why her state has changed although.
She knows things aren’t as they have been.

She died so unexpectedly
that no one came to show the way.
That’s how the lady came to be,
a forlorn ghost who chose to stay.

Here where she had known happiness.
She chose familiarity
Instead of moving on I guess
because she sought security.

She knows that I know she is here
My task is now to win her trust
and show her there’s no need for fear.
I’ll persevere because I must.

She is not where she ought to be.
She died so many years ago
by now she should be flying free..
I’ll tell what she needs to know.

For that is why I was brought here
to help an earth bound spirit leave.
To help her overcome her fear.
I have succeeded I believe.

I’m not a priest or exorcist
I’m just a man who’s sensitive
Who knows for sure that ghosts exist
and offers help that’s positive.

I do not charge my help is free
and I will help you if I can
If you’re in trouble call on me
Your neighbourhood removal man.
