DID A UFO CRASH INTO A WIND TURBINE IN THE UK?
By Jon Nowinski, SGRA
The mystery of what caused massive damage to a wind turbine in Conisholme, Lincolnshire, in the United Kingdom has deepened today with a claim suggesting that it may have been hit by a top-secret Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) undergoing test flights in the area. Whether it was a UFO from another world, or something closer to home, this story has gained worldwide media attention since the event occurred on Sunday.
The wind turbine, which sits atop a 200 – 300 foot tall tower, has three massive blades measuring 65 – 130 feet in length that rotate at a rate of about 10 – 22 revolutions per minute. Whatever happened to the turbine caused one of the blades to snap off completely, and left another one bent, disabling the turbine. In order to cause that type of damage the impact to the turbine must have been substantial, and experts are even finding it difficult to pin down a possible cause.
One thing that has sparked the interest of UFO investigators is the fact that the area around the wind farm is a well-known hotspot of UFO activity. Hundreds of people have reported regular sightings in the past few years alone, and there were many reports of sightings on the night of the incident. The reports ranged from simply seeing balls of lights to sightings of an actual craft in the skies. There were several photographs and videos taken by witnesses as well. It is worth noting here that UFO sightings around energy-related locations around the world seem to have been increasing since the 1980s. There have been many reported UFOs sighted around nuclear power plants, oil refineries, and even other wind turbine farms.
Although Ecotricity, the company which owns the wind farm, have their own theories about what caused the damage they have also added to the mystery by ruling out several possibilities. One theory was that ice caused cracks in the turbine, which led to the damage. After examining the damage, Ecotricity says this was not the cause. Another theory suggested that lightning may have been the culprit, but again Ecotricity has ruled this out. While they have ruled out these leading theories, they also claim there is no evidence to suggest that there was a collision between a helicopter or other aircraft and the turbine.
Although a UFO crashing into the turbine would make a far more interesting story to report, there may be a reason why officials are not rushing to admit that an aircraft caused the damage. According to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) there may have been testing of a top-secret Unmanned Aerial Vehicle in the area on the night of the incident. The UAV, called the Taranis, is currently under development by the British Aerospace Systems (BAE) company. It is a stealth craft with a reportedly advanced on-board artificial intelligence system.
Taranis (named after the Celtic God of thunder) is a delta-winged craft approximately 40 feet in length and with a wingspan of 30 feet. It is designed to fly under stealth and deliver weapons into hostile territory. Its design uses technology that has been under development for the last decade, and it represents one of the most advanced UAV in development today. Although ground testing was scheduled to begin early this year, the MOD has admitted that it was undergoing flight tests in the area of the wind turbine farm.
As the story spreads across the internet, investigators are scrambling to collect details and contact sources to uncover what really happened to the damaged turbine. Aerospace and military reporters are scrambling to follow leads suggesting the UAV was the cause. UFO investigators are having a field day reporting on the reports of lights and unidentified craft in the skies around the wind farm. And everyone else is just waiting for answers as to what could have possibly caused so much damage to one wind turbine, while leaving all the others untouched.
