hi everybody,
my bulldog is almost 1 and is having some skin issues. let’s see where to start...
1. he sheds sooooo much.
2. he has dandruff.
3. the skin under his white hair turns bright red.
4. the vet said he has bacteria on his skin.
5. he had some scaly scabs.
6. he has patchy spots where the hair is very thin.
he has medicated shampoo which hasn’t really made a difference. i feed him "california natural sweet potato and herring" food. he was eating "fromm whitefish and potato" and then he tried the "fromm pork and applesauce" and his skin got really dry, so we went back to a fish based food. supposedly, the california natural is specially formulated for skin issues. he has only been on it about 3 weeks, so i know i need to give that some time. i know he has an allergy to corn, but the vet said that we should wait until he is 1 1/2 to get him officially allergy tested. the vet put him on the medicated shampoo (it has an antifungal agent in it). she also checked him for microscopic bugs, and she said that test was negative. he doesn’t have fleas. he eats out of a stainless steel bowl. i’m just not sure what else to try. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

it sounds like your little guy is a poster child for bullies too. my sophie also has severe skin allergies. she’s tried many different types of food - we finally ended on organic sweet potato and salmon. She’s had primarily rashes and welts on her underside with the constant toe biting and reddish skin under her coat. We finally got her maintained. Here’s what she is on regularly - 1/2 teaspoon 2x/day of efa-3 (an omego 3 cold-pressed oil) that i buy from the vet. she also takes 1 antibiotic pill every day (Cephlexin). i had to gave her a benadryl 3-4 times a day up until 2 weeks ago. The efa-3 takes about 3 months before you see any results but i love it - efa-3 got her off the benadryl. sophie is 1 and 1/2 and 45 pounds.

I have used Neutrogena TGel Shampoo on my bulldog and it works well. You should bath them at least once a week if not more with a medical problem. Diet could be the cause, but it could be seasonal allergies too. My bulldog loses patches during springtime, but it could also be food related. I recommend IAMs or Eukanuba Lamb and Rice.
Hope this helps.
