What is your favorite Virtual World? That would be any online environment where you create an avatar or character and interact with others in addition to whatever else may be going on (raiding dungeons, flying spaceships, etc.).

My intention is to create a virtual classroom for my online classes. It should be complex enough to make it interesting, with places to show steaming video and powerpoints, nested in a larger virtual world for students to explore and do anthropological fieldwork, yet simple enough for an average college freshman using their parent’s ancient computer. My first thought was Second Life, but that is too graphics intensive for many computers.

My experience is limited to Second Life (requires more RAM than I have), Google Lively (not impressed), MySpace YoVille (even less impressed), and World of Warcraft (doing some research on modern shamanism on a 10-day trial; so tempting that it is sure to be the evangelical’s next crusade after they are done banning same-sex marriage).

I don’t really use any virtual worlds, but I’m sure that my personality on each of these type of websites that I use varies somewhat from my real life persona, and probably from each person who witnesses me.

I don’t think I’ve ever role played in any game that I play. I played diablo 2 for a while, but it was just me playing a game. That’s kind of how all of life is, I think. Folks can come up with all kinds of alter egos right here on myspace and facebook and the like.
