Question: In this jewish group is the tradition of bat/bar mitzvah being "the year when one has begun their young adulthood" taken literally in here or not? I mean as the official position of the group, not just personal opinions. I mean we as Jews are supposed to believe in 2 levels of adulthood, young adulthood reached at bat/bar mitzvah age and elder adulthood which one enters after reaching 30 as was always the tradition among our people, which is why in the days of Tanakh, we traditionally allowed military service and marriage when one reached young adulthood and why we did not allow one to teach or to have any say in government affairs until they’ve reached elder adulthood. But we as a people also have the sad habit of allowing diaspora to warp our traditional views on things which is why we now tell people they can teach as youth, they can vote at 18, they must not marry until they have become fully established in their careers,(usually past age 35 or 40), and that they must loath the military! We have strayed from the traditional values mentality of our Biblical days and somehow let ourselves get caught up in foreign mentalities and values, foreign to the Bible and foreign to our heritage. So that is why I ask about that here as I do sometimes wonder about that whenever among a group of fellow Jews who I do not know very well. Personally, I believe that we must resist the almost tidal influence pulling on us to fall into the popular cult of liberalism.
