“Together we can say to our leaders during Global Education
Action Week that no child should be excluded from a quality
basic education – and the chance to reach their potential.”
-- Shakira
=========================================
Dear Global Campaign for Education Member,
We are thrilled to announce that Grammy Award winning artist
Shakira has agreed to be the Honorary Chair for the Global
Campaign for Education’s Action Week 2008. She will do a
global telephone press conference, appear on national
television and participate in a press conference with members
of Congress and young people on April 22, 2008 in Washington,
DC – all on behalf of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE).
We are less than a month away from Action Week so make sure
you REGISTER NOW for the World’s Biggest Lesson. Below are
some exciting ways in which you can participate in Action Week:
------------------------------------
** Go to http://www.campaignforeducationusa.org/actionweek
to register and DOWNLOAD the curriculum for the World’s
Biggest Lesson.
** The first 500 schools/organizations to register for Action
Week will receive a FREE copy of the inspiring PBS
documentary Back to School with its easy-to-use curriculum
packet.
** Support Education for All Children – anyway you can!
Whether or not you participate in the World’s Biggest
Lesson, you can make a difference by writing to your
elected officials or writing your local media. Look for
ideas at www.campaignforeducationusa.org/actionweek
** Send us photos of your Action Week activities so we can
post them on the GCE website photo gallery. Send them to
actionweek2008@campaignforeducationusa.org
** Invite all of your friends to join this group and stay up to date with
current news and activities!
------------------------------------
NEW!! INTERACTIVE GOOGLE MAP: Make sure that your town and
state is counted for promoting education for the world’s
poorest children. When you register, your school/organization
will show up on our Action Week Map. You will be able to see
where other clubs, schools or universities are taking part
across the nation. Do a search by zip code to find Action
Week activities near you! Students from Massachusetts to
California are all taking part in the World’s Biggest Lesson.
Students in Colorado are planning a big letter-signing event
in addition to the lesson. Some students might even connect
by a live internet link from Oregon to a Palestinian boys and
girls club in the Palestinian territories - What are YOU
going to do? Make sure your school, club or university is on
the map! Register now!!

Here are some of the latest highlights planned from around
the world on April 23rd:
** Cambodia - The King of Cambodia is taking part in Action Week.
** United Kingdom - The Minister for International Development
is teaching the World’s Biggest Lesson in the United Kingdom
** France - French children are teaching their legislators at
their parliament – the Assemblée Nationale in Paris.
** Gambia - In the Fonni area of Western Gambia in West Africa
- youth will teach a lesson in English and Arabic to senior
politicians.

In the US, tell your friends and family about the GCE and the
World’s Biggest Lesson. The higher the number of people taking
part in the World’s Biggest Lesson in the US, the more you are
helping to raise public awareness about the millions of the
world’s children out of primary and secondary school and the
bipartisan Education for All Act of 2007. On the website you
can now easily share the action week page with all your friends
on facebook, myspace and many other social networking sites.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at:
actionweek2008@campaignforeducationusa.org.
Together we can make a difference and make sure that no child
is excluded from a quality education. On behalf of all 44 GCE
member organizations - thank you again for all your efforts
to make this the best US Action Week yet!
Take care,
Gene Sperling
Chair, US Chapter, Global Campaign for Education
