Alas, with the coming of Intel processors and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, the last of the original Journeyman Project games won’t run at all on present day Macs as the Classic environment is no longer supported. This is ironic considering that the original Journeyman Project was developed and shipped for the first CD-ROM equipped Macs in 1992. How many of you are affected by this circumstance and would like to see the game properly ported to Mac OS X?
Here’s an interesting discussion at Apple about a fellow in a similar predicament trying to run Pegasus Prime.

This would be great. I’ve been successful getting Pegasus Prime running with sheepshaver on an intel mac, but I have trouble with BiT and LoT. I was making some headway but my hard drive died :-/
A port would be fantastic, and once I get my intel a new drive (couple days) I’ll try to get back to working with sheepshaver if anyone is interested in that (or already is doing it and has had some luck!).

Hello folks, Roland Gustafsson and I have been quietly working on a backburner project on the side and he’s managed to get The Journeyman Project 3 updated to work on Mac OS X, even on the Intel Macs. We’re looking into putting together a limited release of 10th Anniversary DVD-ROMs (with the enhanced higher-res graphics) for Mac OS X 10.4/10.5, but we’d also like to ask: would you prefer them packaged in Amaray cases (like PS2 and Xbox games) or in Jewel cases (like the original Journeyman Project games)? Ideally we’d like to keep the price of these well under $20. Thanks!

If you’re wondering about this new picture that was uploaded, it’s the daughter of the lead programmer of Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time playing the Mac OS X version of the game on her Intel MacBook running 10.5 Leopard. It’s using the enhanced higher resolution graphics from the DVD-ROM version. I’ve also run it myself on my old PowerBook G4 under 10.4 Tiger and the performance is pretty snappy and stable.
I’m looking into jewelcases to match the look of the old CD-ROM releases, but Amaray (DVD) cases are in fact a bit cheaper to produce and also more closely patch the size of the Journeyman Project Trilogy pack, but this can go either way depending on everyone’s preference. In terms of schwag, I’ll check with the PTB on what I can do for a limited run. I still do have my Robotech day job to deal with in the meantime. :)

An initial run of The Journeyman Project 3 for Mac OS X DVD-ROM has been produced and distributed at a Presto Studios staff reunion that was held at the University of California at San Diego. We’re working on making this publicly available soon. The impromptu reunion of the original Journeyman Project production team members occurred during a dedication of the Chameleon JumpSuit exhibit which is now on permanent display at the Science and Engineering Library at the Geisel Building on the UCSD campus. Read the full story from the UCSD News Center.

Hi Tommy Yune
I know I am posting in the thread for the Mac users and I hope I’m not isn’t asking for too much, but is it possible that Pegasus Prime is being considered to be ported over to the PC? If so, I’d buy it.
Many thanks,
Nick

Since The Journeyman Project: Pegasus Prime was built around the classic Mac OS and extensively uses QuickTime for animation, a port to Mac OS X is far more likely than any other platform. For folks asking about the PSX version, the Playstation’s MDEC codec is proprietary and its low-resolution (320x240) makes it unlikely anyone would put much resources into porting that.

I see that the bug with quicktime was solved.
Long time fan here, own the original Journeyman Project Turbo for PC along with Buried in Time (II) and Legacy of Time (III).
I am looking forward for the release of the OSX version of Journeyman Project III. Please keep us posted!

I think a port of Pegasus prime would be great, though I admit I’m little ruffled about it being mac exclusive for little reason now a days.
though I do believe that if they sold an exclusive port for JP:PP that was a PowerPC Mac enviroment just for the game, which you should have already (or be included) that would be able to run on win XP systems and up, along with Mac OSX + systems. Enabling the solution of the problems (JP:PP not compatible with intel macs, and the growing issues of running errors in xp for 3.1 and 95 games due to Microsoft{yes XP use to be able to run JP without any issues, Most can’t now)
Though there is a solution for both, not involving the company it self.
Windows - VMware for JP 1 + 2
Mac - Sheepsaver / PearPC
Details in my Blog.. instructions, and tips.
along with a LONG rant (after) about macs vs. windows.

Orders are now being taken for the new Mac OS X version of The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time at TheJourneymanProject.com.
Adventure Classic Gaming has also posted an in-depth interview, including Michel Kripalani and Roland Gustafsson, regarding work on The Journeyman Project right up to the recent Mac OS X update of The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time.

I’ve been out of the JMP loop since the remake projects fell apart. Nobody told me about this...
How ironic that I just obtained my first proper Mac on Halloween! I was at my friend’s house having a Borderlands LAN party, and we found a rather dirty indigo iMac G3 450mhz w/DVD and OS 10.3.9 in the back yard when someone went for a smoke. My buddy sold it to me for $10 and I’ve been working on getting PP to run on it.

Just ordered my copy. I’ve been wanting to play LoT again, so this is great! Any chance of BiT or PP on DVD in the future?
