I Am Legend sucks.
So starting off, the first half of the movie was great, but in the beginning the first problem is shown.
The car.
This is the only time in the movie this red sports car is shown. The rest of the movie he has his SUV. Why is the car there besides advertising? There was no reason whatsoever to show the car besides for advertising purposes. It even shows the car's name (which I've forgotten) to make sure it got through your skull.
Then it's good. Scary, odd scenes of him talking to mannequins. The lack of knowledge makes the movie awesome. Him zoning out when his watch is beeping, it makes you wonder what's screaming outside. First thing I thought when I was hearing the screaming outside was "The world has been taken over by Banshees."
Then that trap is set, and then the dog dies. The dogs hair starts to fall out and then you go, "Uh-oh. Someone replaced the dogs shampoo with Nair."
Now is the time when I should of stopped watching. That would of been the time to end on a good note.
When Ana and Ethan came, it epically failed.
Ethan didn't even have one single line in the movie. What was the point of him being there? He didn't say "Hi", "Thanks for the eggs", or "You have watched Shrek too many times you crazy man". I guess he never grew vocal cords.
Ana was retarded, "O, wut? lol, it wuz light outsied wen i got hear"
The house fighting was sadly stale when he had to save retarded Ana and the mute Ethan. I wanted someone to be killed, so it would be more dramatic like when Sam died. Also, nice mini twist when we got to hear the full name of the dog "Samantha".
I liked it better when I though the dog was male.
The ending was so anti-climatic. What was the point of killing himself? When I saw the cliche picture of his family, I knew he was going to kill himself. I was like, just throw the grenade then get into the safe room thing. It wasn't heroic, it was stupid. Does the grenade somehow get more powerful if you hold it? It would of been smart to install UV lights in his lab too. If the testing animals were to break out, he could flick a switch and kill them.
Then everyone in the world is saved. Hurray!
Okay. So... How did Neville become the savior of mankind in the first place? Why did everyone count on him to save them?
Enough of my gripes.
At least 2/4ths of a movie are good.

WOW you must be pretty dumb about the red car thing. The reason he didnt drive it again is so the monsters wouldnt know where he lives cause if one of them saw that car than they would look for it at night and find him an kill him.

Movie was good when thought of as a separate idea from the book.( It felt like they just used the name IMO)
I dont know why the kid was even there.. other than to put in a touch more of remorse of his daughter, and a reason for the woman to go upstairs.
Ending.. i dislike.. a lot.. like i said.. in another thread, i would burn the screen if he saved everybody... Blargh.. If there is a sequel.. and somehow Robert lives(doubt) it could follow the book slightly more. Ana still seems very suspicious(or maybe b/c i read the book).. but the way she acted supported my ideas that she was still goin to be a traitor, until... the movie ended.. then i was like WTF??. She seems to be hiding something.. and.. iono.. i cant leave it at that.

Well what about the van? Is the van suddenly invisible to monsters? It looks like it would stand out more than a unedited sports car. The van had huge UV lights on it, I'm sure I'd be able to pick out that van.

Yes, I haven't read the book, and neither had a lot of people who went to see this movie. Sure, there are probably some answers to my comments in there, but movies are supposed to be close as possible to the book counterpart, but then why was it set in New York? The other two adaptations were set in Los Angeles, like the book. To my knowledge, he was publicly executed in the book, so why did they have him kill himself with a grenade instead?

No movie will ever be a perfect adaptation(and i know u said close) of the book. And i think when they decided to make this movie.. they just liked the idea blah.. its so diff from the book.and wasnt publicly executed it just kind of pointed to it didnt say it right away. But then again it was just epic with his last line being I AM LEGEND.
Like i said the movie seemed to use aspects of the character(s) and stole the title.
and what i think he meant about the car was that he wanted to use a diff car like a person fleeing the police would like to switch cars b/c police would notice his. But my theory on using a diff car was depending on what he was planning to do. Such as the van seemed fit for hunting the darkseekers -cough-vampires- -cough- or goin farther out. While the red car was more leisurely. =/ iono.. OR of course start the movie with a nice actiony scene (or just product placement -_-;)

actually ur completely wrong about that, not even close.
those who have read the book know very well that that is not why itwas called i am legend and in my opinion the book had a much better reason. That is what destroyed the movie for me, the ending, they changed the entire reason why it was called I am Legend, read the book i dont feel like typing the books reason, but it was a much better idea that invoked a series of interesting questions about humanity, our beliefs, how we treat outsiders, how we allow our fears to control us, and of course how sound we can be when faced with the concept of complete isolation and inferiority

For those lazy to search threads, read the book, or look around at all but are curious to know ill try to summarize it to at least my understanding whether correct or not.
In the book the creatures were products of their own mind. They were infected human with symptoms that caused them to believe themselves to be "vampires" and sometimes acted as such.(One fool climbed a pole, jumped off, and flapped his wings while falling to the ground. All in the belief (Reasoned by Robert) that he himself was a vampire and turned into a bat.). The belief may have been influenced by the myths and/or Legend of Vampires. People feared such myths. They put a face onto the illness and when they woke up reanimated or when the virus had taken over they believed to be Vampires, craving flesh, fearing the cross(or for those of a diff religion the according religious piece as why would a jew fear the cross?) , and assumably holy water(i dont tihnk it was shown in the book) When Robert Neville Later on becomes captured He realizes that these brand new species Feared HIM.They feared a man that isnt sensitive to light or garlic, and doesnt turn to dust when a deep held open wound allows air into the system. He didnt need the semi-cure they needed. He became the legend. He became what vampires are to us.A myth.. a Legend.
ie.
Mass Population Feared Vampires.Such are just myth or legend
Mass population is now the creatures/vampires
They in turn Now Fear Robert Neville B/c he doesnt have the weaknesses they have.
He becomes the legend or the boogeyman.
(Hes assumed to be publicly executed so in the future, vampire children will think of him purely as the boogeyman...Maybe the idea of a Vampire Came from a similar earlier Case)
in the paragraph i wandered off summarizing( a lot) but eh. lazy to fix. so u get a easier summary under.
