hey gabriela,
first u have to decide if u want to got an art school for fashion design or to a big university like u of wisconsin-madison or syracuse university which offers fashion design, the advantages are u get to take a huge range of courses outside of your major, in fact at syracuse, u can double major in fashion design and communications, which is pretty cool! an art school like rhode island school of design (RISD) or parsons is also good cuz you'll be surrounded by artsy ppl all day, whereas for a big university ull get to meet a wider range of ppl. depends on how focused u want to be, do your research! but i don't want to blow my own horn, but syracuse really does have a pretty good fashion design program, look into it!

I say just think about how much you want to pay, If you want to go to an expensive school, I say Pratt and Parsons. If you want a good fashion design program but at an affordable price, FIT is the best (Fashion Institue of Technology, under the State University of New York), me on the other hand, I couldn't deal with going to FIT when I just came out of the high school right next to it so I came to Buffalo State where they also have a fashion Design program only thing is that when you apply, you have to apply under the Fashion Textile Technology Program and when you do get accepted and what not, you declare your major as Apparel Design. My mistake was applying under the design program and when I got accepted, I had to change my major so that I wouldn't be screwed for orientation when I had to apply for classes. I suggest that if you want to go to FIT, start applying now because their system is weird and tricky, on top of that, you have to have some kind of experience in drawing and sewing and you have to make a portfolio and bring some samples, but there are exceptions to those that have no prior experience. Oh yeah, FIT, you get an associates degree in your major first and then after two years, you have to re-apply and please know that it isn't guaranteed that you get accepted again for the baccelors program.

as far as art goes, i'd go with savannah college of art and design. incredible school, but more than most as far as tuition goes. but they are excellent at job placement and very well known, they have some crazy high rate like 98% of students are placed within the first year. something crazy like that, theyre graet. amazing area too.

I am a Fashion Retail and Merchandising major. It covers the business AND design aspects of the fashion industry. I always advise others that want to do fashion design to look into fashion retail and merchandising so they can have a better background build up of the fashion industry. I just suggest that you do your homework on whichever school you choose, check out their degree plan and every fashion major they have (there are sometimes more than one.)

The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising would def. be the best. They have fashion shows every year to show of the students creations every year, plus its right in Hollywood so there’s a lot of people looking for talent. Lauren Conrad and Stephanie Pratt [from MTV’s The Hills] even go there. Oh and by the way, the dorms are AMAZING!
I’m going there and i think its def. the best for any student looking to gt into the fashion business!

Don’t go with an art school! If you decide against it, you have to start over because their gen eds don’t transfer. Aslo, most places want you to have some business classes. A minor is awesome.
I’m biased b/c my cousin is the teacher, but I say Illinois State. :) They’re doing "Project Hallway" this year and years to come and Tim Gunn is coming.
Whatever you do, make sure they’re CEDA(sp?) approved. That’s what you really need.
