Hi Lucy I don't have a book to surprise you with. But besides being an avid reader, I do like to write. Here's a couple of poems I wrote.
Last stand
By Ismael Rodriguez
Spit and fire
Spew forth like venom
Dragon claws
Rip through my flesh
Yet still I hold
My sword up high
Shield of alder is burnt
And useless now
My breathing gets harder
And blood and bile
Fill my throat
I gasp for air
As my legs grow weaker
The beast still stalks me
Just waiting for its chance
Another blast of flame
Down goes my sword
It’s all over now
In Othin’s abode
Soon shall I dwell
Dreaming Dreams
By Ismael Rodriguez
My dreams of dreams
They bring me to you
Your beauty…
It encapsulates my soul
While our passion
It is encompassing all
I fall into you
Then become whole
The hole in my heart
Only you can fill
But all of this
It is nothing but illusion
Just a dream of a dream
And sooner or latter
I must wake…
And then you are gone
Your soft skin
I cannot touch
The scent of your hair
I can no longer smell
Your sweet lips
Aren’t mine to taste
Life it plays…
This little game with me
Breaking my heart
When I realize
You will never be mine
I cry when I wake
For your love I will never know
But sleep it brings
A sweet release
I will dream my dreams of you
And in my dreams
I am forever yours
And as I hold you close
Your soft skin
I can touch
The scent of your hair
I breathe it in
Your sweet lips
Are mine to taste
My desire for you
Causes unknown pain
And joy beyond belief
Though I may never hold you
In my dreams…
My dreams of you
The light of our souls combine
Paradise
By Ismael Rodriguez
Every time I look at you
My heart it sinks into a hole
For I know your love will
Never be mine
No matter how much I love you
To you I’m just a friend
And that’s all
I’ll ever be
But to me
You’re like my earthly paradise
And never shall I taste
Your forbidden fruit
My dreams of how sweet
Our love would be
Fall to the wayside
As reality sets in
And the dream falls apart
All I can do
Is whisper your name
As I fall asleep

Have you read all Bukowski’s books. The Henry Chisanki reads (Ham on Rye, Post Office, Women, Factoum, Hollywood) not the poems?
