well, unlike (according to the majority of yogurt weavers in this god forsaken town) the majority of people in Lancaster. I feel that we DO need more shops, we DO need a debenhams, we DO need a new supermarket at Lawson's Bridge.
Why? You may ask. I'll tell ya. Why the fuck should resident on the south side of Lancaster have to pay Booths prices for their bread, milk, tea, etc... either that or get a bus into town to save that all important few pence which obviously defeats the object.
Also, why should I (and many other lancastrians) travel all the way to Preston, Kendal or even Manchester to do any decent shopping? Let's face it, Lancaster is shite for shopping, but like many other Lancastrians, I'd rather spend my money locally than travel further afield and chip into Preston's or Manchester's economy.
I'm sure there's many a weaver will disagree with my views. I'm sure they would rather I spend my money out of town, I'm sure they'd rather everybody spend their money out of town. As they DO feel that new shops within the city boundry we be, and I quote "The Death of Lancaster".
Once upon a time, Lancaster was a popular shopping destination for many a Cumbrian shopper. Not any more. Whilst these blinkered adults with their organic brats and "stop progress" banners whinge and whine their way through the Citizen letters page, all the would be out of town shoppers are flicking the V's as they pass through on their way to better shopping destinations which offer something us poor Lancastrians don't have. Choice!
As for dolphins..... hunt them to extinction.... unless of course the dolphin steak market takes of ten we can farm them and use their skin as an organic alternative to Lino.

Aye, it's the Music co-op and the homeless centre's future which are my main concerns too. Both could easily be incorporated into their plans, the homeless centre could even have its own chazza shop, the musicians co-op could set up a 2nd hand music shop to help fund itself and subsidise itself (coz the rent will increase). Also, in the green plan for the site, there is no mention of the co-op.
the green view... (the one where they had a dicky fit with a green and purple crayons, tossers!) http://www.lancasterukonline.net/news/images/2007/070209greenplan.jpg
Fact of the matter is, Lancaster has shit loads of green spaces, we don't really have a need for more. We're not stuck in the middle of Manchester, we're a small town with williamsons park, the riverside park, ryelands park, greaves park, plenty of play areas, the canal towpath, the cycletracks and the fact that one only has to walk for 15-20 minutes in any direction before they reach the countryside.
And I think we already have a diabolical traffic system.
"...redevelopers such as Centros who often seem to barge in, wave a few quid about, the odd backhander here and there and get exactly what they want."
This is the green view, trying to make us believe they're like Gripper Stebson, barging in and bullying poor defenceless town councils, nicking their dinner money and dishing out dead legs like there's no tomorrow. I see them more as a building firm with a plan and some dosh too throw into it. Like any invester, they want a good, if not great return on their investment.
blah blah blah.....

I think we need to start putting our own pro-centros posters in our windows.
Suggested slogan:
It's not your city......
Do as you're told!

and another thing.......
I've lived here all my life and it's only since the yogurt's started opposing anything and everything that can't be planted that I've heard the Mitchell's building referred to as "historic".
Historic my arse, flatten it, flatten mitchell's. They did after all crush Lancaster's proper brewery, Yate's & Jackson's way back when.

I don't think we should change it at all. Who doesn't love a big fuck off car park, especially a shit one with loads of holes in the surface. And if you want your car to get broken into, it's perfect.
Why fix it if it ain't broken?

good point well put Oz.
Maybe we should consider flattening the music co-op, the grand, mitchell's (obviously) and the dukes in order to extend the carpark further. In fact, it's the ideal place for the proposed park and ride scheme, right next to town meaning shorter bus journeys and therefore less carbon emmisions!!!

yes, i heard about that some months back. It's the children i worry about, being dragged around town by their yogurty parents who won't even buy them a mcdonalds as a treat, won't let them play with toy guns, tanks or fighter planes, won't let them eat sweets with too many e numbers. But they can attend the carnival of culture, oh, and look Tarquin, I've made you a 'green man' out fit so everybody will know that your a yogurt child. And Molly's coming as the apple queen!
Maybe i should put up my Organic Lino stall. I'm sure they'd all be after some organic lino instead of that nasty plastic stuff that literally costs the earth!
