JOHN LILBURNE’S REGIMENTAL GAMES DAY
As promised at the August Bank Holiday muster, I am running a regimental games day at the School of History, University of Liverpool on Saturday 16 February 2008. The general idea is to play some big board games involving lots of people on themes such as ‘The Lord of the Rings’, World War Two, etc., and I will bring in a collection of such things, but anyone is welcome to bring whatever they want (e.g. pirate ships, ‘Settlers of Cataan’), while there is no reason why people could not settle down to play some ‘period’ games such as Alquerque or Nine Men’s Morris. And even in respect of the big games, the emphasis will very much be on having fun rather than poring through 200-page rule manuals. Time and venue are as follows:
1000-1700, Saturday 16 February 2008,
School of History,
University of Liverpool,
9 Abercromby Square,
Liverpool, L69 7WZ.
For those of you who know Liverpool, this is very close to the Catholic Cathedral. There is plenty of space in the building and all the usual facilities, while there is a reasonable pub and a couple of nice cafe-bars just around the corner. Unfortunately, cars cannot be parked immediately outside the School, but there are several visitor car parks very close by, the ones recommended for weekend use being those off Chatham St and Peach St. For details please go to:
http://www.liv.ac.uk/maps/precinctplan-2007b.pdf.
Be warned, however: charges are horrendous - £10 for anything over 5 hours – and people might like to make other arrangements; there is, for example, a multi-storey car park about 10 minutes’ walk away near the bottom of Mount Pleasant. Also for those wishing to come via public transport, Lime Street Station is only about 15 minutes’ walk away: again, there is a useful map on the University’s website. Any problems on the day, please use my mobile: 0771-476-1611.
At the moment I think that admission should be free, and intend to try very hard to keep it that way (largely by not telling anybody at work about it but our office administrator!). Finally, if you want to come, please let me know on epsom@liv.ac.uk
TTFN,
Charles Esdaile
PS. Of course, the only reason I am organising this is to give those bloody Puritans a poke in the eye!
