go ahead and get your tattoo if you wanna wear a long sleeve shirt for the rest of your starbucks career and as for the piercing..not a chance..sorry..but it could be different since you are from a licensed store..so i dont know.

It depends on your store manager/district manager.
Ask them!
My DM approved of me wearing a clear retainer until my piercing healed.
The tattoo is a different story. as long as you cover it, its alright.

yea it does depend on the SM and DM, i do know that all tatoos must be covered. i have a tatoo on my low back on the left and if my shirt comes untucked i’m told to go cover it up. The reason to have them covered and not have holes all in your face it so you look professional.

i think its really stupid. we don’t tell people who say its part of their culture to not do it. all my tattooes are all a part of my culture and me. and for the most part i thought starbucks was about the culture. oh well. i think i look more retarded covering all my tatts up with wrist bands. i use three for my leg and two for my forearms. oh well.

I think it’s not so much the look of tattoos, but what the tattoo is. I’m sure if tattoos do eventually become allowed, then it’s a matter of what’s "tasteful" and "unoffensive", which opens up another issue as it becomes debatable between parnters and their management.
As for piercings, I think that has to do more with appearance. It conflicts with the "professional" and "clean-cut" look partners are supposed to have. But hey, I’m all for them personally.

i have a tattoo around my left wrist and when i worked at a license store where my tattoo wasnt a bother but when i moved over to a large corporate store i was told i had to cover it on a daily basis. its a hassle and starbucks is suppose to be diverse. i get comments from customers all the time saying they think its unfair to cover them.

well, ive been paying extra-close attention lately, and as it turns out, none of the dudes at the sbux i go to daily have to cover their tattoos at all, so it must be on a total store-by-store basis. i dunno about licensed stores though, dont really go to those much.

what do they mean "embraces diversity"? that could just mean, hey we hire other colors, witch every place of employment is required to do anyways. There just dancing around the fact that not all costumers like tattoos. That is also a sad thing, there JUST making u coffee.

I transferred stores over the issue. my old manager was a stickler for dress code and i had to buy large bandages for the Celtic knot tattoo on the back of my neck. They were a pretty expensive accessory. My new manager doesn’t care about it at all, since its kinda not noticeable until I turn around, but even then, you can just see some of it over my collar. My DM however hates them, so when she comes to our store I have to cover them or avoid her, lol.
It really stinks that as a partner who likes to work at other stores I have to be careful about which stores I go to. Some are cool with tats, others are not. And you never know until you get there. I was helping out a store that had another partner emergency was working a double to make sure they had coverage and was there for an hour when the manager came in and sent me home because of my tat. He wasn’t nice about it either. I was there to help them out and he shorted his crew over it... I guess that’s dedication to code and standards, but not very good in the respect and dignity department.
For a company that claims to embrace diversity, I’m not really seeing it anymore. I’ve been with the company off and on for five years and it seems like all the diversity is getting removed... The last store I worked at there were only two guys and the rest were white women between 20-40. they also all had the same religious beliefs and anyone that didn’t go to church with them wasn’t made welcome.
I know that part of being a partner is adapting to change and upholding new standards, but I can’t help but feel that the company is starting to dwell to much on the stupid things. Some bureaucrat is doing his job well, but making ours just that much harder. And at the end of the day it’s just coffee, how complicated do we have to make it?
