I just recently entered the world of MySpace, and am still finding my way around.

I'd like to find volunteers of all ages who are eager to help companion animals that have been abandoned, abused, or turned in to the Athens, Tennessee, Animal Shelter. Once they show up at the shelter their days are numbered unless they are lucky enough to be adopted. Sadly, most aren't adopted and they cross the Rainbow Bridge (euthanized). What a tragedy!

The Athens Animal Shelter accepts all abandoned and unwanted animals from Athens and all of the surrounding areas of McMinn County...but only for a few days or a week, at most!

There are so many wonderful dogs and cats that cry out for attention and some tender loving care, but most are euthanized. The Athens Animal Shelter is not a "no-kill" shelter.

The MRHS volunteers spend countless hours working tirelessly to find some way to save these innocent pets...but for most of them, there is only a revolving door to the euthanizing room and the Rainbow Bridge. They know death is coming, but there is no way for them to escape their destiny. You can almost hear them crying out "please save me!"

We need more volunteers of all ages (school age through seniors) who can work at the shelter in various capacities to make the lives of the dogs and cats as pleasant as possible. The volunteers can bathe and brush animals, clean cages, keep water bowls filled, walk dogs, and administer medications.

We need more volunteers who can find temporary homes for the pets until a permanent home is found. We need more volunteers who can network with other organizations and find ways to adopt more of these pets in a timely manner.

We need more volunteers who can assist as guest speakers in local civic organizations, assist in pet adoptathons, and assist in local community fundraising activities.

WE NEED YOU NOW, MORE THAN EVER!

You and your friends can become volunteers today! Call the MRHS office (423.744.9548) at the shelter on weekdays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. or on Saturdays from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. PLEASE DON'T DELAY!
