I remember what it meant to actually buy a FAST car! In the past several years, the rise of the little hamster powered hondas and VW's as (LOL!) "fast" has completely blown me away! Mostly, I believe, this ridiculous and completely false belief that somehow these little put putt cars are "fast" has come from double digit IQ's watching "The Fast and the Furious". These idiots actually believed that the little imports in that film would truly outperform a Ferrari, or a GTO, so they started buying CIVCS and putting fart pipes and wings on them. Oh, and dont forget those super cool IMPORTRACING stickers that undoubtedly add hamster power to thier mighty four cylinder engines.
Here are some clues for you: A VTEC engine simply means that it has variable valve timing. That had to be added because the little engine that couldnt didnt produce enough low end torque to actually get it moving very fast.
Here is another one: SURE! You can spend 20 thousand dollars getting your little GTI to go fast, but it will only do it once or twice before you completely fry the heads and need a rebuild. I can take a $2000 87 camaro and put 4 grand in mods into it that would produce an 11 second car. Why the hell would I want 20 thousand dollars worth of lame ass import crap?
I am sure that it is, just like those retarded mini-trucks of the 1980s, nothing but a trend that will die. Until then, i will ever be amused by the frustrated VW driver with the fart cannon that pulls along side my car with the intentions of showing me that the WING on the back deck of his GOLF makes his car fast. Even further entertainment comes when his little putty putt engine cant handle the job and I end up smoking his doors. The look of frustraiton and bewilderment on his face is fascinating, as my 3200 lb 4 door SEDAN smoked his "fast" little import. Poor guy, just like he believed this his crooked baseball cap made him look cool, he believed that his little import was "fast". I hate to shatter his dreams all in one shot, but it doesnt, and its not.
