I dudn't get banned. I've given up posting in the intro threads because of the temptation to ridicule some of these noobs is somewhat overwhelming. Like the hothouse thing.

Still, the Pertmeister did go some distance over-the-top in that thread. I just wonder how GC is going to explain to her 15 yr old daughter that she got banned for abuse a 15 yr old :)

the whole situation was crap - it was just a response to keridwen's script...and people were going over the top for the comedy value.

i dont think it would have mattered if it were hothouse or some other poor sod. whoever created the next intro thread was going to cop that.

Yeah. Pert, GC, Zivko and bludger all got banned for bagging out newbies.

Well. One particular newbie. One particular 15 year old newbie who couldn't take the heat and whined to their parent, who created an account to complain about it :D

I guess they couldn't ban *everyone* who'd flamed a newbie or else there'd be nobody left in the forum except for the dullards :)

Yeah yeah yeah, I made it here. Took my sweet-arsed time about it.

I got banninated for egging Perti on. And for making a new account, Attack Ranga, I got another 5 days.

So I'm here, angry and hurt, licking my wounds. It's all very unjust and I don't like the way Dom has Eru scurrying around, doing his dirty work like she's his trained poodle or something.

I did not receive a warning, nor did I even get the courtesy of being told exactly what I had done wrong or how long I would be banned for.

It's fucked up.

So much for study, now that I've found a new home away from home.

The kid's father has started a thread using the nick 'abuse is not ok'. it's rather amusing :) the guy is obviously suffering short man's syndrome :P

i seriously can't believe you got banned - you did jack shit. and it's fucked that dom riles up over one thread simply because some wanker had a whinge about it. there were plenty of other threads with the exact same theme and others went by unpunished.

I know, that's what has made me so angry. It feels unjust. And Dom hasn't even bothered to contact me personally, which has pissed me off even more... so I'm trying to breathe deeply and let it go. It's not Eru's fault - she's just the messenger. She copped a bit of my anger and I apologised to her for getting grumpy. If I ever hear from Dom though, or meet him in a dark alley or something...

Yeah I noticed it was quiet around here. But that's okay because I really need to catch up with my uni work. Maybe this is all for the best. The Rage Against The Scalpers discussion is going well, and I have contacted people to figure out how to combat this in the future, plus I have spoken to interesting people regarding the problem. I'm trying to take it further to really initiate some kind of change in the system. Moshtix, although a small operation, is a pretty damn good model, and one of the guys on my email list of the aggrieved and disgusted (I've got a fair few of them now) has come up with a brilliant ticketing system idea! It's great that people can think of solutions.

I got two BDO tix for my son and his gf so at least they'll get to see RATM *sob for me*. I've been busy :)

That sux about the dad - I wish I was on there to give him a piece of my mind (in a nice way, of course) because as a mother I can guarantee that I would certainly not do that kind of shit. If one of my kids came complaining to me, I would suggest that if they couldn't give as good as they could take, or laugh it off, perhaps they weren't ready for that kind of forum just now and would recommed another forum or something.

I honestly thought it was someone playing a joke. I'm normally nice to newbies ffs.

Anyway, enough. It's done, there's nothing more I can do about it and seething about it is not helping me... so on with life I go!!!

Hi to Hothouse’s dad,

I’m one of the ones you got banned from the forum, grooviechickie (or GC for short). Please send my apologies to your daughter on my behalf, and I am sorry for the upset I caused her, and both you and your wife.

I would have liked the opportunity to say my piece, but as I received no warning and was banned without any right of reply, I must admit I come from an angry place right now. I will try to treat you with the civility you deserve, though.

It was wrong of me to egg Perti on, I admit that. But you do not understand the context. As others here have said, we have had an influx of newbies recently, mostly teenagers (or fangirls, as we like to call them). We’ve also had a few “fake” newbies – basically, other members who had made up new nicknames to fuck with our heads. See Princess Cupcake’s entries and you’ll see what I mean. I honestly thought that Hothouse was another one of those – she conformed to Keridwen’s very amusing script. Things got out of hand. If you take a look at my other replies to newbies, I am normally nice and friendly.

I am a parent of teenagers myself. If one of my children (say, my 14 year old daughter) had come onto this forum, copped that abuse and complained to me about it, I would suggest that if they couldn't give as good as they could take, or laugh it off, or ignore it, then perhaps they weren't ready for that kind of forum just now and would recommend they go elsewhere. I would not have blamed the Chaser mods or the Chaser boys themselves for the actions of others. Teenagers need to learn resilience and how to cope with abuse (although this was over the top, agreed). They get lots of it at school, and guess what? It’s not going to stop wherever they go – adults are cruel and nasty too. What are you going to do when a fellow worker makes her cry in her first job? What are you going to do when her first major love of her life leaves her? Are you always going to be there to protect her, say “there, there” and dob on all the nasty people for hurting your daughter?

I know that there is this compulsion to protect your kids – hell, I’ve done it myself. I’ve just been through 18 months of difficulty with said daughter. But guess what? In the end, she realised the truth – in any given situation, the only thing she could control or change is how she reacts to it. My daughter is now stronger, happier and more content because she understands that concept. Perhaps you should share it with your daughter – it’s an important life skill.

So instead of an opportunity to teach your daughter how to deal with that level of abuse, you have taught her how to whinge. I’m not saying you did the wrong thing, but perhaps you should realise that your reaction came from the usual parent place of wanting to protect our kids. I really understand that, I get it. I’m not saying it’s bad. But there has to be a time when we stop and think, “Is that really the right thing for me to do for her?” The teen years are tricky, and realising when to let go and let her fight her own battles is even trickier.

Anyway, I also wanted to add my two cents’ worth about the banning. I’m glad that Zivko got an actual reply from Dom, because I didn’t even get that. Rule 8 states that a warning would be given, and if it happened again then we get banned. Well, we were banned straight out. I would have appreciated a bit more of an explanation than
"Sorry grooviechickie, you are banned from using this forum! Bullying newbies - you should know better". It didn’t give me a time limit or an explanation of what I had done wrong, so as to learn from my mistake. It also said "News: DO NOT ABUSE NEW MEMBERS. Or in fact anyone. Offenders will be banned. As per these rules, which you should all read." Well, because I couldn’t log in, I couldn’t read the rules!

I was treated with contempt and disrespect in this situation. I had no right of reply, nor any opportunity to discuss my position with Dom (he had Eru running around on his behalf). If I had gotten a warning, I would have copped it on the chin and apologised, and not done it again. Now I’m just livid. Sure, I’ll calm down eventually, but even if Hothouse comes back, I will certainly be ignoring her for fear of losing my temper. It’s best that I just don’t say anything at all. I like my Chaser forum membership and would not want to lose it because of her and this whole situation.
