Heya,
I'm just wondering, how does one go about advertising their goods without spending a whole lot of money?
I'm trying to get my jewellery and also elastic shoelaces (for young enterprise :) www.lace-stix.co.nr) 'out there' but I'm rather lost on how to do this!

How do you get into the newspaper, magazines, on radio or even TV to let people know about your products??

Thanks I'm rather new to this

as a marketing manager for my day job im a big fan of guerilla marketing. whats that you say? its when i guess you think outside the square of newspapers and magazines etc you might do those things aswell but a great way and even better way(my opinion) is to do something really different. with my company i had 200 flyers printed just plain black and white and went on a mission with mates and posted them all over the place and i mean everywhere!! theres a few ways to do this eg: just put your company name with a cool picture which gets people wondering what you have and what its about. builds curiosity so when they here the company name then your recognised straight away. just think out side the square theres all sorts of free and cheap ways to advertise and market. hope this helps you in some way.

Hey Danielle,

Long time girl :)

Ok theres heapsa ways to get out and seen. The main thing is you have to be prepared to talk to people. By the sounds of your littlw business this shouldnt be a problem.

Check out your local Chamber of Commerce and see if they have any enterprise courses you can go on. This will give you an opportunity to meet people, learn about biz more and build contacts for selling your wares. Your Chamber may also know of any groups etc that you could join that promote craft or design.

Talk, talk and did I mention talk!?! Take biz cards everywhere you go & hand em out to people! And you dont need flashy ones that cost hundreds of bucks. Use your imagintation. You could even chuck beads on your biz cards to make em stand out. Use what you already have - that's my motto!

Visit your local arts group Most towns or cities have an arts group that promotes people in the design/creative field. Here in Tauranga they organise all sorts from fashion shows to art exhibitions and they have a magazine they publish too. These people are living and breathing design and the arts and will be able to help you get out there in some form.

Local, local, local - radio! I am pushing local hard in this post becuase I say start at home and let it grow. Course if you have hookups elsewhere - go for it! Alot of areas in NZ also have local community or arts radion station/s. Alot of them also interview interesting people. You need to find out if there is one by you and how to get on air.

Sponsor an event your interested in By sponsoring I don't mean giving hundreds of dollars. Find something...an event, competition SOMETHING where you can donate some jewellery and get your brand on something. For example Pink Sky Originals sponsors a hip-hop crew in Wellyz. She gets brand placement which helps to promote her gear. Just keep in mind your target audience. Theres no point in giving jewellery to the local shooting club for their 'guns n' roses 07' shoot off, if thats not your target market.

Thats all I have time for now. But hope it helps! Please let me know how you go girl

Mel :)

Heya
Thanks heaps for your replies!
I'm definately going to start trying some of these- I'm not much of a talker but I know I've gotta get out there!
I really like the Chamber of Commerce and sponsorship ideas, I'll let you know what happens!
