So I ended up talking to a CHP officer tonight.. (no, he didn't pull me over).
He told me that operation safe canyon is spreading to other regions other than Malibu Canyon and the surrounding areas.
They're going all the way up to Angeles Crest, Bouquet Canyon, etc
I thought I'd share what I heard.

Curses! lol. Yeah, it was only a matter of time. If there were more accessible road racing tracks closer to major cities, I bet the number of canyon riders would decrease. It's a better plan than just fucking people over with fines.
I know everyone here is going to start posting all of the tracks available. I know what tracks are where. I am talking about shear costs. There is no track in San Diego, closest one is hours away, and happens to be the most expensive for a trackday.
Also, the costs of riding track. Around $500 each trip. If there was a way to make the track less expensive, more people would ride track and less canyon.

they are putting more CHP to control speed and safety in the canyons and targeting our two wheel community. Near the rock store on Saturday there were like 3-4 CHP cars patrolling the area.

Ok I get it. I think they are starting to do that in chula vista. We got a road out here called Telegraph Canyon. It's real popular for all rider's. CVPD anounced a couple months ago they are realy going to crack down on speeders in the east part.

god damn it...again the morons have ruined all the fun
I am a track junky at heart. I love the track. But...the track is where you go to really hone your skills, race and have fun in a controlled environment
But...a part of me misses the canyon. Just going out and about the world to explore and enjoy nature.
You track guys miss the point of the canyon people. But the ones who are really screwing it up are the ones who think the canyon is the track.
I am fortunate to not have tossed my bikes on the track or in the canyon in the last couple of years, but its because I always check my ego b4 i ride and i leave a fair amount of rumor for error - in case something goes wrong.
oh and a little side rant about the track - there are ton of guys who nickel and dime there way on to the track and screw it up for the rest of us. I haven't had one single session this whole summer that I haven't had red flagged for a crash.
This includes:
-running on dead tires
-busted track bike
-bad suspension
then guys crash and are running freaking coolant or engine ice and f'ing up the track surface.
it's an expensive hobby, can't pay the piper - don't play

LAME!!
My buddy and I went riding yesterday.. man, I was too afraid to even open the bike up....knowing that the cops are looking for us. We had to cut it short and head back home.
Not to mention the heat.. I hate to agree with Jules but the heat was just unbearable.
So when I was out with my wife today... I saw bikes everywhere keeping it at speed limit. Not that I'm eager to kill myself, but heck, my R6 doesn't even feel good unless I'm at 100mph.

man, this post just rubs me the wrong way. In one hand, you explain that the track is the best place to ride aggressively, but then in the other you tell people to stay away if they don't have a good budget to ride track knowing fair well that the track is expensive but it is better to have people hauling ass on the track instead of in the canyons.
Also, bragging about not wrecking doesn't mean you have figured out the answer to sportbike riding. Proffessional racers put it in the dirt frequently and still go on to win some of the most challenging races in the world and setting track records in the proccess. The fact that you are not willing to push your abilities because you want to "Play it safe" only means that you have wrecked in the past and are afraid to wreck again. And if it's a matter of affording wreck repairs..... If you can't pay the piper - don't race.
Oh, and feel free to check my page for those pics of my "Bitch strips" on my tires. Cute term. You definately sound like that typical literbike douche. lol.

shane i suggest you go back re-read my post b4 you make comments.
1st of all, the canyon and the track are different.
The track is where you hone your skills, where you and everyone else out there is going the same direction at the same speed (fast).
The canyon is not the track - its suppose to be a day of kick back and ride. you ever wonder y the chps are targeting sport bikes and not cruisers? because the sportbikes are the ones requiring a life lift.
now it would be nice to limit where people could ride based on ability, but this is a pc society so unfortunately we have to adhere to the lowest denominator rule.
yeah i have crashed, sometimes they were just crazy accidents that came out of nowhere and sometimes they were me asking for it.
but it is irresponsible for us (sportbikers) to ride to the point that we need a life lift (whether on the track or off the track)
i budget myself for approx 52 track days a year. i use 1 set of tires every 3 days and 10 gallons of race fuel every day. If my cash flow suffers - i don't force the issue and make a track day because i want to - there will be others. But I know I don't want to ruin my bike, my day or my week based on a crash i could have avoided by being frugal.
btw all my paddock buddies and I know exactly how far to push our bikes to have fun - we also know that if we push ourselves beyond that we definitely run the risk of crashing. if you can't identify this barrier you have some issues

i would have to dissagree. no mater how many trackes there are. if the cost is there. (entry and wear and tear) there is always going to be people rippin up the streets with inadiquate equipment putting them selvs and others in danger and getting propes for it. More power to all the janky riders out there putting their lives on the line for a good time.
