Hi all,
Thought I'd get the ball rolling on here with this introductory post. For those who don't know me, my name is Dario Western and I'm a 70's glam rock fan formerly from Manchester now living in Brisbane.
I remember "Tiger Feet" being played on radio and on Top Of The Pops when I was about 3 years old and used to love Rob Davis' fuzzed to oblivion guitar and Les Gray's Elvis impersonation. From then on I loved them, though I didn't buy any of their records until I was in my teens and bought the Mud Rock album. I remember it was a hoot of a record with "Geoffrey" introducing the band and the songs segued together with party noises and a screaming crowd.
My favourite song by Mud is Rocket followed by Tiger Feet. I also like quite a bit of their material they made after leaving RAK records like "L-L-Lucy", "Shake It Down", "Just Try A LIttle Tenderness" and their lovely cover of "Drift Away" (why it wasn't a hit is beyond me).
My favourite all time record "Red Top Hot Shot" by 90's duo Queen B had its B-side "Gardening" produced by Rob Davis, and I quite this song - it sounds a bit like Transvision Vamp meets mid-period Prince.
I was really sad to hear of the recent deaths of Les Gray and Dave Mount. I only wished that they had toured Australia and that I was old enough to see them live during their heyday.
However, I'm glad to know that Cherry Red Records is re-releasing their post-RAK albums, as well as their classic stuff and rarities released by EMI in the A's B's and Rarities catalogue.
Would love to hear what the others have to say about Mud on here.
