As we are getting ready for this competition, it is important that we are aware of the purpose and benefits of competing. We are not there to show how "Bad" we are. So, what are we there for? What are the benefits of competition at this stage in your training?

1. Promote the Martial Arts: Our participation along with that of other schools promotes our arts and helps to inspire others to join our schools, learn and grow.

2. Evaluate our Progress: We diligently practice techniques, footwork, concepts, principles and techniques. Can we use all of this in real time? The proof of our progress, the fruit of our hard work is in how well we can execute. So, this will give you a gage, a measure of how well you can execute.

3. Experience: One does not become a doctor without actually treating patients, nor a pilot without actually flying a plane. Experience in actual use is what brings all that training and practice and transforms it into ability.

4. Broaden your Kung Fu Horizons: There will be practitioners from other styles present. You will see them perform their art, and you may face them in the sparring competition. This will be invaluable in your understanding of your own art and of kung fu as a whole.

5. Extended Family: Coming together in a spirit of fair play and brotherhood will gain all of us more friends, and will provide opportunities for sharing with others. So, don't be shy, make friends and grow our extended kung fu family.

There are many other positive aspects to an event, a gathering like this. How about a little help in listing some more?

Sifu Mario.
