Having read the book, what did you think about the various deaths?

I loved the fact that Bellatrix died. However, it was a shock to me who killed her. I would have guessed Neville would finish her off. Oh well, I guess I was wrong there. Nonetheless, I'm glad the deed was done.

so she said 3 main people died in this book... snape and voldemort we 2, but who was the third? there was dobby, mad-eye, fred, tonks, and remus.... so in my opinion more than 3 main people died.... i cried when dobby was stabbed and harry wanted to dig the grave himself instead of use magic. also when he was buried, they put clothes on him and i cried some more... so sad, but the best book ever!

If I remember correctly, J.K. Rowling said that one character that she initially killed off got a reprieve. I wonder who that was....

They're major characters, she wouldn't just change their fate so easily.

Anyway, in an interview with NBC's the Today show, Rowling identified who the person who got the reprieve: Arthur Weasley.

The article says:

One of the big stories that has been floating among fans for more than a year is that one character gets a reprieve from death, while two others Rowling didn’t intend to kill end up dying in “Deathly Hallows.”

“Mr. Weasley, he was the person who got a reprieve, ” Rowling said. “When I sketched out the books, Mr. Weasley was due to die in Book 5.”

Instead, another father dies in the end of Book 7.
