Ok, to answer your question, we obviously played on the common phrase "hell to pay" -- (which I thought was referring to the payment of sins in hell... though I later found out that it's really referring to boat repair but does have som connotations of punishiment >> see this >> http://www.businessballs.com/clichesorigins.htm#devil_to_pay_expressions_origins )
