New Age Records Presents “Coming of Age” Two Day Music Festival
On September 17th and 18th, 2005, New Age Records, one of the longest running and influential southern California Hardcore Record labels will be showcasing 14 new and old acts from their much celebrated roster. When asked how this show came to be, Mike Hartsfield, New Age owner and founder stated, “I had wanted to put together a show like this for quite some time. I still follow hardcore as much as I can and it really seemed like a good way to merge the new and old worlds.” Confirmed bands include Outspoken, A Chorus of Disapproval, Mean Season (featuring Steven Andrew Miller from Unbroken), Countervail, Aftermath of a Trainwreck, Collateral Damage, Countdown to Life, Hellfire Trigger and Angels Die. More bands will be added in the coming weeks and announced at www.newagerecords.com.

The “Coming of Age Show” will be held at the Showcase Theater, which is located at 683 S. Main St. in Corona, California. This show has been in the planning stages for the past few months and for many of the bands playing this will be their first live performance in years. Trying to be do things a little differently, this show will have an as yet unannounced live emcee and a video of the entire two day festival will be produced by Darren Doane’s XDOANEX production company, with directors Kevin Wildt and Jeremy Jackson calling the shots for an eventual DVD release. In addition to the events that weekend, on Friday the 16th, the day before the show, there is going to be an “Everyone’s Invited” party at Disneyland.
“If the show is not a success,” Mike stated matter of factly, “at least it’s a good chance to hang out with my friends.”

New Age Records was formed on a shoestring budget in 1988 by Mike Hartsfield in attempts to give unknown hardcore bands with a message and sincerity a chance to get out of the garages and into studios. "The message is the music," says Hartsfield. “Hardcore had an honesty and emotion that I just had to be a part of."

New Age Records soon had many southern California bands, not to mention worldwide hopefuls, beating down the door for a home at a "real" hardcore label. The New Age stable reads like a who’s who of hardcore folklore. Bands like Unbroken from San Diego who helped harvest the hardcore/metal fusion. Outspoken, the band responsible for coining the phrase "Straightedge isn’t cool anymore… So what!". A Chorus of Disapproval, the militant straightedge band that actually drove fear into a generation. Strife, the west coast heavyweights who mowed over what it’s predecessors left wanting more. New Age tightened it’s grip around the east coast as well with groups such as Lifetime, a band near and dear to the hearts of any fan of “emo” styled hardcore. Turning Point and Mouthpiece were the pride of east coast hardcore proper, with their driven views and endless aggression. The list goes on and on, and with the addition of the newly signed bands Just Went Black, Aftermath of a Trainwreck, Hellfire Trigger, Angels Die and Countdown to Life. 17 years after it’s inception the New Age tradition is still going strong.
