Lately, I've been intrigued by the number of people interested in "the spirit world". As Christians, we certainly believe in a "spirit world", but what does that entail? Is it like the "Sixth Sense"? Can houses be possesed? Can we contact dead relatives like David Blaine? How does he do it? King Saul visited the Witch of Endor for advice. Should we visit mediums such as palm readers and tarot card readers?

Do I think ghosts are common? No. Do I think that there is a lot going on that I don't understand and things that I am completely unaware of? Yes. As for psysics, I think it's a load of hogwash. I think God could gift someone with the ability to see into the future, but I don't know if He would. He teaches us about faith and a concern with needs of the present without the burden of worrying about the future. "Give us this day, our daily bread..." The Hebrews got manna everyday during the exodus. Everyday God provided. Everyday they had the perfect portion. They couldn't even save up some "rain day bread." They had to wait until morning to collect their bread for the day. So my mom sees a future teller regularly. And I think its dumb and I think she's wasting her money and I think she's fooling herself. She wants so badly to believe in something. Oh, she goes to church and she believes in a god, but her god fits in a neat box with sharp, clean edges. Her god even, sometimes, answers wishes. She doesn't know the God I know. She doesn't know the big God. The God that is redeeming all of creation. She knows about Jesus, but she has no idea of the joy that comes from being forgiven. How salvation is an invitation for a journey not a distenation. Requirement verus hope. Its right there, and she's missing it because she's staring into a crystal ball.
