After being in the game for about a year now, we have a fair understanding about how the industry is working. The favour for a favour between booking agents which inhibits good independent bands from acquiring good support slots and means that mediocre bands get better look-ins from label and so on. We wont ever complain about this like others. It the state of the music and were all in the sh*t and hae to deal with it. Put yourself in a situation to overcome such problems, and thats exactly what were tryina do instead of complaining. BUT WHAT WAS INTERESTING WAS, that when Myspace decided to changeover Myspace music player the number of view s and plays of the biggest acts in the world suddenly decread by as much as 6 times!!!
We initially lost all our plays anf were quite pissed off, but it was temporary. But we were excitedtoo because it felt like at last we were all on level playing fields. The big artists/bands the emerging bands and the small bands. For example, we visited M.I.A’s Myspace and she had 20,000+ views in ONE DAY!! We couldnt believe it, this was like 6pm in the evening and so many plays already. So when the new player was introduced we checked again but this was around 11pm at night ... she had barely over 4,000 views! This is still a lot, we do appreciate this but from over 20,000 to like 4,010 is a massive difference.
Now it seems like things are back to normal. The new Myspace increasers are out and the labels and management companies and shitty bands that feel its better to invest in increasers rather than fan management and music are back on top of the plays. Funnily unskilled A&R’s seem to think by looking at your plays they can tell how popular you are. AMAZING isnt it!??! La Rebla Fam REFUSE to succumb to this plays increaser crap, not only are you then cheating everyone else you cant even analyse your own progress correctly thus your cheating yourselves!!!
