Hi. I'm Abby. I have never heard about straight edge before today. I was just messing around and I found something on it and it caught my eye. I don't smoke, drink, or have sex. I looked up stuff on being straight edge and that is what was said to be the basis and hardcore music. I try to listen to hardcore music but my mom is clueless and thinks that only gothic people listen to hardcore. I want to know more about being straight edge. I wanted to try being vegan once, but it is something that is really hard to do down here in Louisiana. Can someone explain straight edge to me better and help me to become vegan? I want to try, I always have because I really do think that it is bad to kill animals like that, but yeah Louisiana is a big seafood place. HELP!?!?!?!?

i found out about it from a poster on my current life classes wall.

but yea.. from what ive found out, most people say you should go out and live life first, without being straight edge before you make the decision [life long commitment].

i dont wanna claim straight edge with out trying something,
i think it means more that way.


but dont get me wrong, its great that u want to be straight edge. just dont rush into it.

who knows, you might change your mind when you become old enough to do it legally.

I eat meat every day. I'm the furthest thing from vegan, and I'm straight edge.

It seems like veganism is just a trend they're trying to put out there to advance their own political ideologies. It would be like me saying "no sex, no booze, no drugs, no gun control".... it's a political thing, not straight edge.

Straight Edge needs to be something that u are gonna be committed to... No drinking drugs or whoring urself out.. i mean like... lets say ur in deep love with someone and u know its gonna work out... tell me if im wrong but its ok there.(sex like after marriage). anyway you dont have to be vegan either... cuz i mean it just helps purify ur body some people would say, , , , if u have any questions message me

You don't have to be 'Straight Edge' just to be poison free. I think the entire idea behind it is just keeping your mind as your greatest power, and not giving in to any substance and allowing it to control you. If you know for a fact that you're a strong enough person to make the best out of your life without being high or drunk to do it, then I give kudos to you, many people are too weak on their own to even make it into the next day.
Just do what's best for you and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

But with the music thing you mentioned..... you don’t have to listen to hardcore music to be straight-edge it’s just usually what most kids end up listening to.
Don’t put yourself in a box of what the typical edge lifestyle is. As long as you have the basics no drugs, alcohol, or casual sex you got it.
Most importantly if you do start to label yourself edge don’t shun others who aren’t or push your lifestyle on them, it’s the same as them telling us to do drugs or drink.

i guess you could say ive been straight-edge all my life, i only found out what the "label" was for me a few months ago. ive never seen the amusement in alcohol, grugs, or sex before marriage. i also have the love of heavy rock. i thought i was alone in my beliefs, until i discovered the straight-edge. now, i found that i have other teens just like me who refuse to fall into the trap of partying, and i am thankful. anyone feel like talking, im here.

Whatever people say... I believe punk is a critical part of the straight edge scene. Minor Threat established the actual label and to claim being straight edge for yourself... one must be fully engulfed in the lyrics as well as the lifestyle. If one chooses to be drug free...thats awesome!!! ... But honestly being edge is living the life, and not following the punk/hardcore movement and being edge...really does not make sense. Even if one is not into this music...thats fine, but please this shit is not a trend, so don’t just adopt the label to make yourself look cool, live it.

the point of being sXe is making a comittment to live a pure lifestyle for all your life not just throughout highschool. i choose to live the way i live for all of my life because i understand the importance to not let substances and vices controll my body or mind. as far as veganism goes however a good task it may be to undertake ive always understood that it is a personallized decision. i choose to abstain from sex until marriage but that is a reflection of my personal christianity and has nothing to do with being straight edge.
