I just saw a very well acted, responsibly staged Godot by the Irish theater company The Gate at UCLA. I think Godot is a play that is well-suited to a procenium space—what with the vaudevillian threads in the text and the complete destitution of the characters. Right?

To me, the script for Godot seems infused with such loneliness. The characters talk to each other, without ever truly being companionable. All talk is of fear.

Therefore, a vast and empty space seems best suited, to empha<myspace>size</myspace> the isolation that we all have from one-another
