I just read your post on www.pittsburgh.com
I had been so interested in seeing this great work on film and now it doesn't bear any resemblence to the story I love. Diminishing/removing Arthur and Phlox takes away the most interesting relationships and will leave the movie one-dimensional. I am afraid when it hits the box office though, I will view it as a train wreck and just have to watch.

Hi, Terri--

Thanks for your post...

Yes, indeed it was a sad, sad day for MYSTERIES OF PITTSBURGH fans everywhere when Michael Chabon agreed to allow Rawson Marhsall Thurber to option the film rights to his great, great novel.

Please join our boycott and make your voice be heard... Train wreck, indeed!

Re: the script

I'm working on getting a copy of the script from a friend of mine at CMU... I'll be happy to share the absurdities with you all, as I'm sure there are MANY!!

We all know scripts, 9 of 10 times, completley slap the original work in the face. This is probably why Chabon chose to write the script for Kaliver and Clay. I'm still interested in reading the script and seeing the film.

All hope is lost. Out of all the book-to-movie adaptations that I've seen and being not only a book lover but studying to be librarian I can only say that this is going to be awful unless someone does a serious cleanup. In my opinion only 3 (3!! movies!) out of the I don't know 100's? movies I've seen, only 3 have been made into sucessful adaptations (Fight Club, the Virgin Suicides, and 25h Hour). I was hoping to add MOP to the list. Unfotunately I won't be able to. Seriously, the director of dogdeball?! who thought that up?!

I read the script today and it is a shit. 3rd and 4th act boring (especially the 4th) and Cleveland..s death in the script sounds stupid. I dont like it.
