So is Opi8 gone for good? What happened? Declining interest from viewers or from artists? There doesn't seem to be even anyone active on this Myspace group.

Is there anything that can be done? I've got some things I'm working on I'd like to see on Opi8, but if unless it gets some more attention, I don't see the point. I'm sure if enough creators put some work up we could revive the site.

OK, it'll be a while before anyone notices this message, but some thoughts for now. I'm know a lot of the past contributers are making headway for themselves, and building up followers of their own. I am too in my own personal harassing, hey you go look at my blog kind of way ( http://jontk.blogspot.com/ in case you're wondering)

But if the site is to rise phoenix style from the ashes, there's a lot that can be done to promote the site to people on myspace, one of those is spam, I don't know if anyone would go to that extreme, but it's possible to invite existing friends to groups, and send group bulletins to round up existing members.

Thoughts?

Ok, a week since I started this thread, and no replies. Kind of what I expected and another sure herald of the end times.

I didn't notice your post but I have been hoping for months hat when i breeze past opi8 there would be some new content. Alas as a simple reader I cannot do anything for the site. No contributons from me means nothing to supply the site admins with. nothing to supply means no reason to update. unless there is something holding back the site itself. the thing is. no updates means no excuses so we're left to puzzle over whats gonna happen, if anything at all.

maybe this needs to be broken up into more than one reply:

Luckily, there are plenty of submissions coming in to Opi8 pretty regularly. Unfortunately I'm having trouble blocking the time to work on the site. It's just me now, all the other editors are off doing their own thing, and I wanted to finish the rebuilding of the site before putting up more content.

...continued...
Site's not dead, just on hiatus until things clear up (I do see time in the not-too-distant-future).

I'm glad the audience hasn't completely abandoned us though

...that was annoying. I've been trying to post that reply for weeks now. I got no message when it didn't post, and I don't know if it's not letting me put the email address in there properly or what. but it looks like it went through now.

Strange, I've never had problems with posting to message boards, but bulletins fuck up all the time for me. Speaking of which, if you want to notify readers sending a bulletin when the site next updates would kill around fifty eight birds with one stone.

So thoughts for keeping the site active, how about setting up a group blog on the front page, not the standard link churning blog, but if you could get some of the old contributors to add some thoughts and maybe short fiction, and still have the rest of the site operate as normal around it.

O.k, Its 2007 now. Well, Barely. But I'm curious. Anything coming up soon in regards to the site? And Is there anyway anyone can help? If its too heavy a burden I'd like to help.

Its looking less and less likely, someone no where as optimistic as me would say its never going to happen. The way I see it is if there's still submissions and they're good, then there should be some new material up there as soon as possible. In my view the best way in my view to revive the site would be to set it up as a blog, something that can be subscribed to, letting people see new work as its posted, and old material that would otherwise be lost in the archive can still be posted, it'll be new to most people and mostly forgotten by returning readers.

In the meantime if anyone's using StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/) they can take the time to recommend Opi8, or better still, pick out some of their favourite stories from the archive so that new readers can get straight into reading something, and if they like it then hopefully they'll explore the rest of the site. More of a eulogy then a resurrection, but its something.
