So what's your favorite novel by Dennis Cooper?

Mine is TRY (from the George Miles Cycle)...

TRY is phenomenal... I think Dennis Cooper himself even claims that TRY is the heart of the "George Miles Cycle, " in regards to how much sympathy is directed towards the main character Ziggy. Also, Ziggy's friendship with Calhoun (a heroin addict) is one of the more touching and tender interactions I think Cooper has yet created... blah, blah, blah... I LOVE this book.

Yeah I agree about Try, cuz for me Try was the vacation from Frisk, which gave me such body-churning, and coldness. But Frisk probably has to tie because it gave me living proof of how extreme a book can make a person feel; that typing something causes nausea a few months later.

Wow, Try is the only novel I haven't read since he began the George Miles cycle, but my favorite is Period. I think he encapsulated everything perfectly in the finale, and the novel basically disintegrates into futility, as was his attempt to channel George through his work, or recreate him into something once again tangible. I find myself always picking it up, and getting closer to a greater truth only by becoming lost further in the darkness.

Yeah, PERIOD really is a marvel. It was the first of Cooper's books I ever read. It was interesting to start with it, and then to make my way back. The Cycle truly is one of the greatest projects in literature in the past 50 years. Tops...

I've been dying to re-read Frisk. But my friend hasn't given it back yet. And it's been like six months.

I loved period. I like how JT Leroy is on the cover of the book—just to confuse things. But I must say, it was fun to read Wrong on the plane next to the waspy conservative old lady.
