I'm Nancy I started this group because myspace sorely needed a Sandy Denny group, I'm from the Isle Of Wight and a singer myself, I sing Sandy denny songs accompanied by my dad. There's no recordings I'm not professional (yet lol).
I started this thread so we can all introduce ourselves so go ahead.

Nancy I seem to be the first to post after your good self - but ok, let's help to get this ball rolling!
I am a rather ancient Leicester based singer-songwriter who knew of Sandy for many years, mainly through the wonderful Liege and Lief, but I wasn't aware that she was such a great and original songwriter in her solo work as well until the mid 1990s when I heard folk singer Vikki Clayton cover some of her stuff.Vikki enlightened me a lot about the true scope of Sandy's achievements.
I love so many of Sandy's songs:The Lady/Carnival/The Sea/One More Chance/All Our Days/Wretched Wilbur/Listen, Listen/One Way Donkey Ride/Next Time Around/Stranger to Himself/The Pond and The Stream/It suits me well..oh and lot's more..and her takes on I'll keep it with mine, Tomorrow is a long time, Two weeks last summer - and Tam Lin of course!
She is a big influence on my own songs, as much as Dylan, Lennon, Hendrix, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, Pete Townshend or Roy Harper have been, and that's the level Sandy Denny is on, she's one of the true greats of the artform.

I've been aware of Sandy all my life and I particularly like the albums "Listen Listen" and Fotheringay.
My dad preached about her from as young as I could listen, and I've grown up using her voice as a benchmark as to how good a womans voice is.
I didn't really get into her music till my teens however, I always loved "Winter Winds" and "Solo". Though now my favourite tracks have to be "Late November" and "North Star Grassman And the Ravens".

'ello!
I feel really dorky when I introduce myself but here goes. My name is Mundo, I live in California and I'm a pretty new fan of Sandy's. I actually found out about Sandy when I was reading a book about women in rock, and Grace Slick mentioned her. Now, I am a HUGE fan of Grace Slick, so I thought I'd check Sandy out. I love the stuff I have (2 disc anthology, and 2 disc set of Fairport stuff). Now, the creepy thing is...when I read a bio of Sandy, I found out that she died the EXACT day I was born. Talk about coincidence...

I intend to write a more detailed piece for the introduction to the group when I have time, probably some bio and discography. If anyone else wants to submit anything just mail it to me.

I'm from the Boston area in the U.S. and have dug Sandy Denny since 1986 which was when I got my first Fairport Convention LP (Unhalfbricking). That's all it took, just one listen. I remember after listening to that album I could not collect her recordings quick enough. I think what I like best about Sandy's work is that you can keep coming back to it. It never gets old or redundant. You can always get something out of each listen.
My favorite Sandy song? It changes all the time. Right now I would have to say "It'll Take a Long Time."

Hi, although I've had a couple Fairport albums for a long time I wasn't really familiar with her wonderful solo work for a long time, but it's beautiful, thanks for starting the group.

I first heard Sandy "when I was young", first with Robert Plant on Led Zeppelin's "Battle Of Evermore" which has been one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs ever since.
Then, still in the seventies, there was a sampler LP called "El Pea" which included "Late November".
I always beared in mind that there MUST be more to Sandy Denny than these few records I had heard, but it wasn't until recently that I came to know her best songs like "Who Knows Where The Time Goes", "Fotheringay", "Winterwinds", "The Banks Of the Nile", "Carnival", "One More Chance" - and many more, thanks to the internet.
She is my all-time favourite singer and nothing compares to her voice and power of interpretation.

I'm Giselle, from Southern CA and I first discovered Sandy when I started to learn of British Isles Folk while living in VA and listening to the UVA college station from Charlottesville.
Even after having had friends with obscure taste in music as a young woman, i had never heard of Fairport Convention. On the East Coast there seemed to be more knowledge of British Folk. I found an affinity with these songs and found my voice was suited to them. Two relatives and one friend once came in while I was playing the real Sandy Denny singing and asked if it was me. I don't have the power she does, tho.
I play guitar and sing and have some new recording equipment, tho I'm not sure if I should just do straight covers or try to write some originals with an English folky feel.
My originals just turn out strange...which is good, I guess, but different from folk.
I have been tempted to add everyone here at the Sandy Denny group because I love her so much, and you all must be very wonderful to love her, as well, so don't be surprised if I ask you....

Brilliant Giselle, I'm planning to perform some her songs at venues, I'm checking out the copywrite situation at the moment, and if it's OK I'll add a recording of me singing some Sandy Denny songs to a Myspace music page. It would be great to hear you sing them too, if we can get permission we must do it.

It turns out the copywrites are owned by the seperate record companies, so contacting them will be hard I couldn't even find a web site for "Warlock" let alone "sonet".

Right I found out how to contact the record company, turns out I'll have to pay if I want to record the songs but not as much as I thought I'm seriously considering it, So watch this space!
