NASSAU COUNTY HAS THE HIGHEST RATE OF AIDS CASES IN A SURBURBAN AREA IN THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!!!!

THE HIGHEST RATES OF AIDS CASES ARE IN MINORITY AREAS LIKE HEMPSTEAD FREEPORT ROOSEVELT AND UNIONDALE...SO ALL U GIRLS WHO LIKE TO SPREAD YOUR LEGS FOR ''THUGS'' AND GANG BANGERS(WHICH ARE ALSO PLAGUING THESE COMMUNITIES) YOU ALL NEED TO WATCH OUT. GETTING AIDS ISN'T CUTE.

WOMEN ARE THE LEAST LIKELY GROUP TO USE PROTECTION.

AIDS IS THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH OF BLACK WOMEN AND HISPANIC WOMEN BETWEEN 25 AND 34.

WOMEN MAKE UP 48 PERCENT OF NEW HIV CASES AMONG ADOLESCENTS.

WAKE UP PEOPLE.....THIS IS NO JOKE.

these are just the reported cases....you're right in that we'll never know the acciurate number....but this shows how prevalent aids is in long island....pretty fuckin scary.

i'm feeling ya hempstead...we both have the 2 biggest numbers on there...though freeport still doesnt compare, and other fact for ppl to know long island alone has more case known than 27 others states just in general in the U.S.

All those numbers are far lower than they should be. At least it still gives an idea though.

Note sure what "lower than the should be" means, as there SHOULD be NO cases of AIDS anywhere, but that would be in a perfect world.

I should do a search to find out how this data was collected, but I'm too lazy right now. I'm *assuming* that these numbers reflect individuals who actually meet the criteria for full blown AIDS (significant measurable viral load, low t-cell count, AIDS-defining illness, ) as these statistics would be kept by Social Security and Medicaid because when the virus progresses to this point, the individual is eligible for SSI/SSD disability and Medicaid/Medicare.

I DO NOT believe there is any tracking of people who test HIV positive, because the confidentiality laws are actually stricter than ordinary HIPAA privacy rules in order to encourge people to seek treatment.

In any case, I found the demographics pretty interesting. You can definitely tell where the "bad neighborhoods" are located...

As far as Long Island having more cases of AIDS than 27 states, we should put the population density into perspective...

North Dakota, for example, has a poulation of 636, 677 (estimated, 2005) and is the 47th most populated state, and Connecticut at 29, only has a population of 3, 510, 297 (estimated, 2005.)

In the 2004 census, the population of the Nassau-Suffolk region totalled 2.8 million people.

its almost scary to think what some of the "more recent" numbers might be...

you know it's a sad state of affairs when they do seperate studies about Nassau Community College and Hofstra University. Now I don't know the truth to all of this, but from what I heard about the study done at NCC (and this was around 2001 when I went there) it was something like 7 out of 10 girls on campus had an STD. Now out of THAT 70%, a whopping 90% of that group had HIV or AIDS. Which is why I am happy to say I abstained from any girl who attended NCC. Truth or not, that is some scary shit.
