Agreed! To the person who write this; check out Bay Shore sometime. You'd freaking love this place!

that's correct to some extent
but when you travel off LI or NYC, you see that LI is actually one of the least segregated places compared to the rest of the US. New York City is not exactly the country average in racial harmony - that is it's much more integrated and you can't use that as your standard. and no, it doesn't matter which race you are as the one saying it, although that's an easy way to just invalidify someone's point without addressing it.

are you white? because i always get that kind of response from a white person.

I'm mixed racially, actually. But seriously, check this town. It's a progression of mankind, actually. It's come further than any other place I've seen on LI.

Diverse, yes I just moved to the Bay Shore area and it's much more mixed than the white-bred town I came from, and I love it. But then again before white-bred town I live in white trash land, so I guess it's all come full circle.

I think the most drastic examples of segregation is shown in socioeconomic and geographic oddities like where the rich white areas border working class minority neighborhoods. Like crossing the Northern State from New Cassel to Old Westbury, or crossing the Meadowbrook from Merrick to Roosevelt/Freeport or whereever the fine line is between Hempstead and Garden City...

I lived in Farmingville all of my life and had just moved out last year to the Bronx. I visit my family once a month or so in Farmingville to see how things are with them.

I am hispanic...Puerto Rican and Colombian.

I have never felt more uneasy in this town bc of the whole immigration deal than i have felt anywhere else yet in the US.

All the labeling and racial tension has got to stop and it has to start with the parents. Kids in elementary, middle & high school start the labeling and harresing and to prevent further future violence we have to stop it starting now.

My 17 yr old brother was harrased for awhile bc he was "Mexican" bc his skin is dark.
Ive been harrased to "go back to my country". AMERICA is my country and i dont understand why people of this community have become more and more ignorant.

But we have to stop the negativity before someone gets seriously hurt (again) or killed.

Native New YorkerWrote:
i was born in Queens, moved to virginia beach virginia when i was 3, but make regular trips back to queens, manhattan, and LI. i most frequently am in calverton, or hempstead or valley stream. all of those places (except calverton) beat virginia in segregation. virginia is the most segreated fucking place in the world. we hide our racism. u go to north carolina, they dont hide it, they come out "i hate niggers" but in virginia they try to hide it. not only that, but whties hate blacks blacks hate asians, asians hate whites, blacks haate whites, white hate hispanics. its fucking crazy. so basically dont complain id love to move back to NYC or LI.

NYC is like 30% black.

my town here is 20% black

the national average is like damn 12.. 12% of americans are black, 75 white, 13% hispanic. asian is the rest, and native indian is like .8 so dont complain about LI

like i said people have to shape up to try to prevent as much of this negetivity as possible... the presence of alot of these immigrants only started happening about 10 years ago in THIS area...and it just has been growing.

It really depends on where u live on li. I have caucasians, phillipinos, Indians, and other Chinese people in my area. Eventhough it is predominantly white.

On the North Shore, it's mostly white and very segregated. Head South, and it's very intertwined, alot of black and hispanic.

And wherever you're from is filled with total pieces of shit.
