The other day in our "Best Horror/Comedies We've Never Heard of" discussion Pinky mentioned ED AND HIS DEAD MOTHER (1993) in which Steve Buscemi raises his mother from the grave only to have her come back a little wonky and go on a flesh eating rampage. VIEW TRAILER HEREIt reminded us of a film a friend of ours wrote and directed some years ago called MOM (1990) about an elderly woman who takes in a roomer who happens to be a werewolf and once bitten she begins to sneak out at night for her own 'bites'. A theme was emerging and with Mother's Day coming up we thought it might be fun to put together a list of horror/comedies with a "mother as monster" theme. From Full on Flesh Eating Momsters... Mémés cannibales, Les (1988) aka Rabid Grannies MOM (1990) Parents (1989) Flesh Eating Mothers (1989)....to Murdering Momsters... Serial Mom (1994) Arsenic and Old Lace (1944) ...and just plain Troublesome Momsters... Throw Momma from the Train (1987) Got any favorites we missed? Feel free to celebrate your devotion to this very endearing category of Horror/Comedies.

All my favorites are there. Not a comedy, but Friday 13th could be considered as a killer mom story. I'll have to get my movie encyclopedia book out to see if there are anymore.

Parents and Arsenic and Old Lace are probably two of my favorites. Oh and Dead Alive, of course, but that goes without saying.

We met Betsy Plamer one day while we were out walking our basset hounds. She was out power walking and came over to see our dogs as people occasionally did. She looked familiar but I couldn't remember from where until she introduced herself simply as "Jason's mom". True story. lol

Cool to meet "Jason's mom" like that. I found two more to add to this list. My Stepmother is an Alien and Parents (Parents is more with mom and dad, but nonetheless still mom). It's another one that can go under Cannibalism is Funny thread.

We liked MY STEPMOTHER IS AN ALIEN (1988) which may appear in an upcoming topic. While the THE DUPLEX (2003) and THE LADYKILLERS (1952) are not true 'mother' films, both are in the same vein and are both darkly comic. The Coen Brothers' most recent film may also do, but I almost always prefer the original if possible and how can you go wrong with Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom.

I should film MY mom when she goes on a rampage. *LOL* She's terrifying, but it's kind of funny to see her nostrils flairing.

So what if it's past the Mother's Day holiday here are two more: "Mama Dracula" (1980) and "My Mom's a Werewolf" (1989)
