This film show things that all americans think about 'Brasil' (I don´t want to write with 'z'). With this productions, people will be afraid to visit my country, they will think that here we have just drug dealers and a big jungle called 'Rain Forest' or 'Amazon. This 'Film Empire' that broadcast the AMERICAN IDEOLOGY have been sending us this TRASH, and we have been watching this TRASH (not anymore).
The war, the pollution, the attitude against the Kyoto treaty just show us what government you want to your country... Bush Father, Bush son.
Well, here in Brasil we will boycott 'TURISTAS'. I have american friends, I know good american people, but things like this (the film), we cannot agree.. If we made a filme about your country (damaging) you would act like I´m acting.

i see your point but i dont agree entirely. While its not an accurate depiction of Brazil(or Brasil whichever way you want to spell it) the point of the movie isn't to make Brazil look welcoming. It's to scare he shit out of you. A lot of scary movies do take place in America. I'm not going to stop going to Texas because I'm afraid of some chainsaw weildding idiot. Its pretty much not going to stop me from seeing Brazil either because it seems like a great place for travel and I'm not one of the brainless Americans who believes that everyone is out to kill tourists for fun. It's just like Hostle. Is everyone in Europe a nymphomaniac who buys tourists to torture them? I would hope not.

I was taking a look at some comments about organ thieves and this called my attention: “And not just Brazil or any country that permits illegal trafficing of unethical and immoral business practices”.
Do u people really believe that these kinds of things happen here? Have u seen things like that happening in Brazil? Cuz I have lived here for 18 years and I have never heard of such stupid thing! How come?
And u know what’s interesting? It’s that Americans don’t usually know about other countries. I’ve been to America for 6 months and I’ve heard that Brazil is in Europe or that we speak Spanish or that we have jungles and monkeys everywhere. And when I told them that we have the third most populated city of the world, coming before New York and that we do have McDonald’s here….people were like.. “Are u being serious? I didn’t know that!!!” And hey!!! U come with a movie lying about my country and people suddenly know everything about Brazil and even how bad my country is!
And don’t tell me this movie is not going to affect people because my host family is coming to visit me and when my host sister told some of her friends that we were going to Rio, they were like! “If you are really going to Brazil, don’t get even close to Rio!! Cuz I’ve seen a movie and Rio is a dangerous place!” I had to tell her to calm down and that Rio is not that bad… she still wants to go there and I am sure we are going to have a wonderful time!

WELL!!!!

I lived in "America" (dont know why they call them like that, even though we can call ourselves AMERICANS, because we all live in AMERICA) but anyways..I live there for 1year and a half in a exchange program:

_Fact 1. Most of the people (see that im not saying ALL) dont know much about brazil and this is a fact.! They just know about soccer, women and beach!!
_Fact 2. They think that in Brazil we speak SPANISH, but hey is "commum" because i have lots of friends around the world who think that we do speak spanish ..and if u see that all countries in Latin American speaks spanish expect Brazil, French Guiana (speak french) and Trinidad Tobago (speak dutch, I didnt know it)...
_Fact 3. They like to put their country in first place, what's the matter??? I think we brazilian need to do it too..THe difference between being patriot and being "the kind of the world" is the point...Some of them think they are and some no!!!
_Fact 4. How can they learn about other countries if the MEDIA dont let them? Because yeah, i like to see news and I watched ALL tv channels and they just talked about them or Irak war, or something internacional but it involved their country....*with rare expections...
_Fact 5. You will find people that is a brainless in any part of the world...But I can talk about brazil that we need to leard everything about the other cultures/ countries at least if u are in a geo or history class at elementary school or HS...and for vestibular even more...and if u like to see news we can see everything what's been happening in the world..so dont blame them for that...And even i brazil we will find people who dont know anything about nothing..Like I heard a stupid guy from Sao Paulo who thought that Recife was a desert??!!??
_Fact 6. They are friendly!!! I can tell that 80% of the people that I met were nice to me!! And If you know how to talk about Brazil, they will def. hear u...At my college class I spent time talking about BRazil, economics and the problems, and they seemed to loved it...
_Fact 7. We need to stop thinking that we cant do anything because we can change it (elections for what??Yeah I know corruption!!! But one day need to change it)!!!

So I dont think we should think that if an american seem this movies or other they will think that Brazil is lika a jungle (even though I know that some will), and problems happen all around the world, US, Brazil, Africa (That's a BIG problem), Europe....Right now I'm studying in Netherlands (or Holland if u preffer) and some people here arent much aware where brazil is or something like that, as the same aways as some americans, asians, canadians or whoever...

Just one question?Do you know the capital of Suriname, FRench Guiana or Guyana? I dont know..Why? They make border with brazil and we dont know? We just know the "important ones" like Venezuela, Colombia etc...Just because they are "more important"?? See even we brazilian dont know it!!! So stop talking!!!

I'm not an american lover at all..But I think that we all just see the bad part in the others not in ourselves!!!!

Why do we when go abroad dont let trash in the street? when in brazil we do? Why we just talk about bad things in brazil when we are living , and when u talk with a foreing we just want and talk the good part??

I think this is a bullshit not to watch the movie, as a lot of brazilians are saying to dont..I didnt have opportunity to see the movie because didnt get here in Hollanda yet.... but as soon it starts i will see!! When it was talked before, like the movies that are made in US, or in other countries never had this "big deal" like is everytime in brazil!!!!

Stupid people will see this movie and will believe that brazil is like that!!!

BUt I have one question...Did those actores went to other part of brazil besides the jungle??because i heard in the behind the scene a girl talked "i hate this place''...i dont know if she means this place the jungle, or brazil (if she didnt see the rest of course)....

AND THANKS FOR THOSE WHO HAD THE PATIENCE TO READ ALL THIS!!!!
Life's good and short...

First I believe in what Voltaire said at once: “I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say that”. So, even if I don’t agree with everything that you say, I do respect your opinion.
I know nobody has the obligation to know everything about us. And I didn’t say that to criticize them, but to show that they really know nothing abut my country. And I totally agree that the media doesn’t let them to know that. But do the few ways they have to know about Brazil need to be bad? And I say that because this is not the first time I watch a bad American movie about Brazil. Have you guys seen THE ROCK? That was awful in the same way! Hollywood is earning a lot of money!! Probably this is not going to be the last time too. I mean, am I going to support when someone says lies and bad things about my country? “Hey everybody! Go ahead; watch that movie because it is funny! You are going to have so much fun!” No way.
You also know that media still influences people. We have three kinds of main influences: family, peer groups and media. Guess who comes first? And this I learned in America in one of my Sociology classes when we watched many documentaries talking about the influence of MTV in teenager’s lives. Even in Brazil we have historical facts related to the media, u know that. So, I think we need to be careful saying it doesn’t have any affect over people. Not in everybody, but it still does.
By the way, the media here in Brazil is really worried about this movie. That’s why I found out about this forum. They published it on one of the best newspapers in Brazil. Economists and people from the government are worried with the consequences of this movie. They are going to raise the propaganda in other countries to make people see that we are not that bad. I mean, this is crazy, isn’t it? All that because an innocent movie! We have to take money from the taxes we pay to pay for this propaganda! And if we don’t maybe it will affect us in the same way because we don’t how bad it’s going to affect our tourism. We don’t know what is going to happen later. Maybe it’s really inoffensive, maybe it’s not! Who knows?
Just to finish. I also don’t support Brazilians going to the movies to watch it. We are giving money to people that say all that stuff about us. We can’t allow TURISTAS to be a big success here, this would be pathetic.

Oh yeah, the media influencies "everybody??" Dont think so!!!
So it's the simple thing that i said above!!! There are people and PEOPLE!!! So I only think that is not going to be a movie that will show what brazil is..And I dont know if while there u watched new, i mean not tv shows news, cnn, abc , nbc all these...they really just show a few things about any other country (just a few few few) and sometimes they are bad too.... I know media can do a lot (I dont need to say about the Globo Tv in our country) but it's not the fact that it has a big influence that u can say that everyone will follow it...just a few less educated part.... And i'm not telling just educated about the school and those things..telling about "general education"..something that in US they dont see much!!! so the problem is not the media as a whole thing!!
