Before opening credits, Moira is in the room with Charles inside the body of his brother (who was in a vegetated state). He explains how he did it and tells her not to contact anyone of his X-Men.
Credits. (I’m thinking they should show the mutants at the Mansion practicing their powers in the yard and flash from mutant to mutant showing their names on the screen so people know who they are.)
After the credits, Rogue leaves the Mansion to go for a walk. While walking down the street at night two guys start harassing her, then she turns down an ally and they follow her so she tries to hide behind a dumpster and the guys find her, she screams, and she sees a shadow zooming back and forth in the distance, then out of nowhere the two guys go flying, Ms Marvel stands there and holds out her hand to help Rogue up and introduces herself. Then one of the guys starts shooting at them, so Ms Marvel grabs Rogue by the arms and starts to fly. About 20 seconds goes by when suddenly Rogue hears Ms Marvel gasp then they start to fall. Right before they hit the ground Rogue starts to fly. Not knowing that she is Rogue, because she held on to Ms Marvel for too long, she looks down and sees that she is holding ‘herself’. She takes her to the hospital, saying that she doesn’t know what happened and flies out a window.
Then we’re at the Mansion where Storm is taking charge over the students with the aid of Wolverine and Beast. Beast doesn’t stay long due to his new job in the government and Logan leaves thinking there is no more hope. Iceman, Colossus, Kitty and Angel learn that they too are now helping out around the mansion due to lack of teachers. Jubilee and Syrin are introduced as supporting characters now, when they ask if they can help out too (Storm says yes, needing all the help she can get). Iceman starts to ask around if anyone has seen Rogue (nobody knows of course).
They cut to a scene where Wolverine is back at Alkali Lake looking through the ruins of the research facilities, and as soon as he starts to have a couple of flashbacks, out of nowhere Sabretooth attacks him.
Beast learns that Trask is planning on re-introducing the Mutant Registration Act with the aid of the Sentinels. After hearing of the plans he leaves his job that he had always dreamt of and returns to the X-Men to warn them and join them in planning to stop the new Sentinel project.
They then show a scene with Emma Frost turning against the Hellfire Club because she thinks that the Sentinels are a terrible idea while the rest of them actually helped present the idea to the government in return to keep them alive. She then goes to the Mansion seeking a place to stay with people who have the same idea of the Sentinels.
Kitty, Syrin and Jubilee talk about how they’re scared of what this might lead to and they go into a deep conversation of what Prof. X would do and how they miss him. Then Kitty remembers what they had talked about in their last class with him and they begin to wonder if he really could have transferred his mind to the unconscious body. They then present the idea to Beast, knowing that Storm would be in denial. He is convinced it might be possible. Rogue storms into the room where they are talking, breaking down the door, and she starts talking about how she doesn’t know who she is and wants to know if someone can help her. Beast decides it would be best if they went to go look for answers and takes Rogue, Kitty, and Syrin to go look for him in Scotland. He leaves Jubilee behind to cover them and to convince the others that they have gone to look for Wolverine instead.
Gambit also turns to the X-Men for a place to stay after personally being attacked by the Sentinels.
Then there’s a scene where a group of 4 Sentinels are attacking the Morlocks (lead by Mask) in the streets of New York. The X-Men (Storm, Colossus, Iceman, Angel, Jubilee, and now Emma and Gambit) go to stop the Sentinels. They destroy 3 of the 4 while Jubilee and Gambit are captured by the 4th one who flees back to Master Mold. Gambit gets captured trying to save Jubilee who was the first one captured.
While the Sentinel is fleeing back to Master Mold, it is attacked by Magneto (who got his powers back as seen in the last scene of 3rd movie). He takes Gambit and Jubilee to his mutant sanctuary, Genosha.
Meanwhile, Beast and others find the island where Charles is found alive and fully aware of what is going on. Rogue keeps saying that her name is Carol Danvers and that she doesn’t know why she looks the way she does. Prof. X tells her to calm down and that he will help her figure everything out. He convinces them to let him stay on the island with Rogue and Moira to help her out. While waiting outside, Kitty and Syrin see a guy flying over the water screaming at the top of his lungs, he gets closer and Kitty falls to her knees in agony while Syrin is standing unaffected. He embraces her and they both start to cry. Kitty phases underground and reappears inside and says that it may be time for her and Beast to go. They leave Syrin with her father on the island.
They return to the Mansion to find an upset Storm. She is so furious she decides to gather the X-Men to go find the base of the Sentinels. Storm, Beast, Angel, Colossus, Iceman, Kitty, and Emma all go to Master Mold only to find that Gambit and Jubilee are not there. They destroy the base anyway leaving nothing but an explosion behind.
They cut to a scene where you see Mystique is talking to Pyro about forming a new brotherhood. She presents him a list that consists of Toad (who left the original brotherhood because of trust issues), Avalanche, Blob, Quicksilver, and Domino.
Determined to find Gambit and Jubilee, Storm convinces Emma to use Cerebro. She finds the floating island and tells Storm that she senses great power. Storm tells Emma that she is going to stay at the Mansion in charge of the kids while Storm goes with Beast, Colossus, Iceman, Angel, and Kitty to Genosha to try and retrieve Jubilee and Gambit.
Upon arrival they come across Mystique, Toad, Blob, Avalanche, and Domino. Mystique introduces her new team to Storm, but they don’t fight. She lets them know that she is there to recruit Quicksilver and talk to Pyro once more, so they separate and go their own ways.
While Emma is at the Mansion she gets a telepathic message from Prof. X telling her to get the kids out of the Mansion. So she decides to only tell the mutants that have the most useful abilities as she saves herself and leaves; Magma, Sunspot, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Moonstar, Marrow and Armor all have cameos as they rush to get everyone else out of the Mansion.
Back on Genosha, Storm separates the X-Men into two teams; her, Angel, and Iceman, and Beast, Kitty, and Colossus. She takes her team and goes to look for Jubilee and Gambit while Beast’s team goes to look for whoever is in charge of the place.
Mystique doesn’t split into teams but, instead, Pyro finds her, standing next to him is Psylocke, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Juggernaut. They go into a brawl.
Beast, Kitty, and Colossus are walking down a particular row of cells that hold certain mutants. Some of the mutants that they walk past are Havok, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Sunfire, Northstar, and at the end of the row Cyclops. They don’t see a way to open the cells and before they could figure it out, Magneto enters the hall with Polaris and Blink.
Storm and her team find Gambit and Jubilee out in a courtyard doing slave work with collars around their necks that prevent them from using their powers. They are being monitored by Sentinels that have been altered by Magneto. So Storm and her team fight off the Sentinels; Iceman goes to remove the collars off the mutants’ necks. He freezes the collars of Jubilee and Gambit so they snap off. Jubilee goes and gets the rest of the mutants’ collars off with her energy Pafs while Iceman and Gambit help Angel and Storm take out the Sentinels. The rest of the mutants that Jubilee saves flee.
As Mystique and her new brotherhood make for an escape, Quicksilver decides to go off with them, knowing that his father’s plan would soon fail. Scarlet Witch wasn’t too happy about that so she returns to go to her father.
Storm and her team along with Gambit and Jubilee catch up with Beast, Colossus and Kitty just in time for Magneto to reveal what Genosha was all about. He then goes into details about how Jean didn’t kill Cyclops and how she just barely stopped herself from doing so when he came along and knocked her out with a magnetic wave to her head. He then took Cyclops to Genosha for special care and then locked him up. He explains that Genosha is a place where mutants can live in peace, but some of them are not privileged to use their powers openly.
Storm gets fed up with his rambling and orders Kitty to break the prisoners out of their cells (initially saving the day such as in the 3rd movie). Then Magneto attacks the X-Men with Pyro (who just arrives with Juggernaut and Psylocke), Blink, Polaris and Scarlet Witch. Iceman takes on Pyro once again, and Storm takes on Polaris. While Colossus and Juggernaut duke it out Rogue busts through the wall and tackles Scarlet Witch, who was fighting Gambit and Jubilee. Behind her comes in Prof. X, sitting in his new hover chair and shuts down Psylocke’s brain, sending her into a coma, knowing that she was about to do the same to the X-Men. Beast and Angel try to fight off Magneto, but he is much too strong for them. Meanwhile, Blink sends Kitty into a portal before she can release the first prisoner. (Syrin stayed with her parents, Banshee and Moira, back on the island in Scotland).
Back at the Mansion, the young mutants help get everyone out and at a safe distance. Knowing that the Professor was right, Emma watched from the side of the forest while the Mansion gets blown to pieces by what looked to be a nuclear bomb (but was actually Phoenix).
Magneto finally retreats once Pyro’s flames miss Iceman and release the imprisoned mutants, with Cyclops at the lead now they attack full-force at Magneto, but he is already gone. Sunfire and Northstar immediately flee, while Havok, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler offer to help. Not knowing that Pyro’s flame hit a central circuit that starts to explode the electrical system of the island, the X-Men are forced to escape without saving the rest of the imprisoned mutants; hopefully they all had a way out.
They now have Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Colossus, Kitty, Jubilee, Gambit, Havok, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, and Prof. X all in the jet and Angel and Rogue fly along side. Gambit is staring at Rogue in a sensual way out the window. While they approach back home, they are surprised to see the Mansion is gone. They land and the young mutants run from the woods to greet them and mourn. Emma realizes that she won’t do them any good so she leaves.
Then there’s a scene at the end with Wolverine beaten and broken walking away from the lake and Sabretooth in the background getting off the ground and retreating into the snowy forest.
Start end credits.
Possible credit scene: where Kitty is floating around in a dark place and sees a flame. As she gets closer to the flame she sees a dragon’s head (Lockheed). The Screen blacks out back into the credits with intense music.
Possible credit scene: Magneto is kneeling before Sinister saying he is sorry for not taking care of Genosha, and Sinister says it’s ok, the war has just begun; as he looks up.
At the very end of the credits, they’re moving the camera along the rubble and there is a movement under a large piece of concrete wall where you see long red hair and a woman’s hand moving out from underneath; Jean is reborn. (I was thinking maybe they can show Emma turning into diamond form and lifting the concrete wall off of her and taking her away, back to the Hellfire Club, before the X-Men start to rebuild.)
