So is it mandatory, or is it just plain nice to tip them out?? We only do it on our Friday and Saturday nights, but still, if we have 11 servers on the floor, and only have 3 table sections, and sometimes, those sections may be 2 5-tops and a 2-top booth. So your over-turn of guests may not be that much. And for the most part, most of us servers are standing around not doing much and helping running food too, so why the hell do we have to tip the food runner?? I just think its insane!! Does any other store do this??

at our chilis it’s mandatory to tip out the expo (QA) but we rarely have food runners but wen we do it’s optional to tip them out but i always do especially if I’m slammed working a decent station because I probably won’t have time to wait around for food

I have worked for several Chilis stores and I hate that people tip the QA/Food Runner. They are getting paid normally more than minimum wage and choose to work that job. Now do I think it is easy work? No. I never work QA because I am not good at it and it is hard for me but it is the job that that team member has chosen to do so I feel no need to give them my money. They worked for their wages and so did I. Maybe this makes me harsh. Maybe it makes me a bitch. But I have worked long enough for Chili’s to realize that everyone makes the amount of money they want

Tipping a food runner and a QA is not manditory according to Chili’s training materials. Personally, I think it is good protocol to do so as many times they will cover a servers ass when they make a mistake and fix it quickly thus ensuring that you still get a tip from your table. The tip is based on what you want to give, not a set amount. Based on the service that they provided to you. I give about 1% of sales. Sometimes more if all my food goes out exactly like I asked for and especially if I am having an off night and they are fixing mistakes for me.

Since I am a QA at my store, I know how it feels not to get tipped out by fellow servers... it sucks. While by company policy it is optional, it’s highly recommended that servers tip the QA out. Realize we DON’T have to be there. We are there to help servers... that’s our job. We are there to make sure errors aren’t made that servers probably wouldn’t find. For some tables, we end up being the ones determining what type of tip your going to get. Typically, the managers at my store make it a point to the servers that they should tip us out. Since my store is typically busy, we have a QA everyday, every shift. There are the occasional few that find it unnecessary to tip me out but then again I will remember that. The next time they happen to press the QA MAKE button, I might just **cough cough** bump it off the screen. The next time you ask me to get something "on the fly" for you, I may just take my time. Just remember, unless if you would rather do it on your own, my main concern as a QA is to assure the quality of the food before it touches the table.

There is a lawsuit and has been in the making for several years. I am not sure if it has ever been settled or if it is still hanging in limbo.

I am both a full time QA and a server at my store. As a QA, I do make more than minimum wage but it is certainly not enough to pay bills and shit. Tip out is definately appreciated and when I serve I make sure I’m tipping the QA out. If you take the tips you make on a busy saturday night and turn that into an hourly wage it is def. a hell of a lot more than your QA is making. Besides making sure that your food goes out correctly with all the modifications we also have to deal with the pissed off cooks and the servers. It is def. not fun to get cussed out in another language.
