OK i just got back from seeing watchmen in new york and damn This is probably the first superhero movie to do many things, such as portray one who is so morally
unscrupulous as the Comedian, or as mentally unstable as Rorschach, or is constantly full-frontally nude like Dr Manhattan, and a sex scene as graphic as Nite Owl II with Silk Spectre II. I wonder what new ground hasn’t been broken yet?

the marketing hurt this film it was marketed as a action but it is more of arthouse film .
Zack Snyder should win best director at the academy awards for his dark and unique take on the superhero genre, and because crafting this film was no easy task this is the greatest film ever made . he is know the greatest film director of all time .
move over M. Night Shyamalan .

Jackie Earle Haley should win best actor in a leading role he was amazing he showed more of emotional range than your typical Hollywood movie star. Great movie, great role, incredible actor!, he even topped heath ledgers joker .

it deserves the best picture Oscar because of its art .

I think you’re full of shit and hope this is a joke. I’m not saying that the watchmen isn’t good. I’m saying that it has been done before, in the fucking graphic novel. There was nothing really special about the film, the cgi was ok and as far as acting goes it was alright. Now Zach wasn’t that good of a director seeing as how his two big movies were already laid out in the graphic novels. I think the film came out way too late, for it to be rebelling against the "system". Bush was out of office and there is this new sense of "hope" or "change" or whatever that the film can’t connect to. The Watchmen film was just a truthful adaptation of a graphic novel in to a movie.

what do you want my birth certificate for Christs sake this is fucking harassment.my name is Louis .
The Dark Knight, while drawing inspirations from past Batman comics/cartoons was largely original and gave Ledger a lot of room to develop the character and do his own thing with it. He was not restricted to a very limited history or source material. Not only that, but he also had a number of past performances to draw from and expand upon, most notably Nicholson in ’Batman’ and Hamil in ’The Animated Series, ’ but excellent performances in their own right/medium. Furthermore, Ledger had the opportunity the rely on his entire body and face in his portrayal, as well as the excellent makeup job.

Jackie Earle Haley, on the other hand, had a very limited source material and could not deviate from what was within the Graphic Novel. Nearly all of his lines, actions, etc. were restricted to panels in a Comic Book. So not only was he restricted in that sense, but he had to convey emotion and get the audience to connect with his character through a mask that remained on for most of the film.

Both actors truly inhabited and became the character they were portraying. Both did a great job and gave powerful performances, but I think overall Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach/Walter Kovacs was the better performance. The emotion he put into the role and conveyed, both with and without the mask, was incredible. The scene where he killed Grice was such a nuanced and powerfully emotional scene that I got chills. Even with the mask, you could sense that his face was truly twisted in pain and he was conflicted with what he was doing. The shaking, the posture, the stance...and each strike was deftly executed with the utmost restraint and pain. And the scenes without his mask, most notably when he was having the mask ripped off by the police and his death, were very important scenes and I was worried they would not translate well to the screen; boy was I wrong. Haley nailed the performance, and I feel, gave the far superior performance of the two.

That being said, I do not think he will win an Oscar for this performance.

agreed the dark knight is way better, watchmen was just an overblown and bloated film with some bad acting, the dumbest sex scene in the history of film (i mention it took me out of any story it was trying to tell) the lamest bad guy ever, and excessive dialogue of the same damn thing to me it was like i know the point there trying to get at and yet they still had several scenes of them talking about the same thing over and over, the only good thing about watchmen was the comedian and rorscach, o and a bit too much blue penis for me as well but thats minor it was alright but just too much slow motion and cgi non sense and it featured one of the most abnoxious opening scenes i have ever scene!!
