I’m an Atheist and proud of it.
I don’t wanna believe in some magical being that has no real proof of it’s existence.

Now, I like to read fantasy novels like Twilight, Harry Potter and The Bible, but I’m not going to ever believe in any of them. It just seems stupid if you think intelligently.

I just want to know your "beliefs".

I agree; the Bible is a load of crap. I say that anyone can easily make up a ridiculous bunch of stories like that, and the way people submit themselves to its influence makes it all brainwashing and cult-like.

Churches such as the Catholic Church have no relevance at all in society. They are wrong in so many facets of life, particularly in terms of sexual diseases and relationships. Face it- they were wrong about the earth being flat, weren’t they?

Religion is too much of a negative influence. There’s too much war and bigotry started over it and for nothing proven.

The golden rule: just becase we’re athiest it doesn’t mean we’re evil or bad people who kill, cheat, and lie. It pisses me off that so many Christians and the like simply assume that we must be evil and that we’ll go to hell for it.

Forget evidence, proof, or even the question of whether or not God exists; I’m disgusted by the proposition to begin with. A being who would drown every living creature on this earth, who is judgemental, vindictive and feels the need to introduce famine and disease to "test our faith" is NOT a foundation for a moral lifestyle.

Out of Zeus, Jupiter, Neptune, Baal, Odin, Thor, Wotan, Apollo, Isis, Seti, Seth, Osiris, Ra and hundreds of other gods which humans have prayed to over thounsands of years, people are so sure of their own beleifs that they would start wars and commit acts of terrorism and torture to defend them, even though it’s a complete accident of birth that they hold those beleifs to begin with.

look at the state of the world today. Its absolute chaos and sin is running amok.
Divorce rates are more that 60%, teen suicides are above %15, depression and insecurity are insurmountable. BUt, These statistics only really arose when people started ’liberating’ themselves from religion and from living a faithful life. When people started abandoning God, stuff starts to go wrong.
This isnt a form of punishment, but its that God himself is Goodness and Love and Peace.
When people seperate themselves from God, they seperate themselves from these qualities and bad things just happen.

The stories man came up with thousands of years ago to explain the origin of the earth arent true. Of course they arent. But they do outline some important points.
God created the universe,
God created Earth,
and God created Humans set apart from all other animals.

Evolution doesnt disprove God. Who’s to say that it wasnt just a means of construction?
The way it panned out was that we now have a choice. We can believe we were some giant accident, or that we were created by someone who loves us to the point that He would give us a choice as to whether we would love Him or not.

Evolution created a singularly species that had the cognitive power to comprehend a God, and that could express love in all of its forms. No other animal has either of these abilities. We were made to Love Him, and to love one another in community.

Love is all about freedom. God loves us, and wants us to be free. And we can resist Him, and choose not to love him. But He wants us to love Him, so that He can bless us with all of the things that He has in store for us.

Why resist love in its purest and truest form? God will never let you down, cos He is always there for you when you need Him to be. He will never make you feel like you arent good enough.
Why turn away from a being that only wants the best for you? When there are no negatives?

Interesting that you say that animals don’t have the ability to comprehend god. Take Cicadas for instance. They lay dormant underground for around 16 years and then eventually they emerge from the earth and all within a few days take flight, find a tree, sing, mate and then die. What do we do? buy ipods, watch reality TV and start wars. One of the main things that separates us from god is the way we place ourselves above all other forms of life in a spiritual hierarchy.

Purnell the way you described things as being with god having no negativities? look at the world around you, wars over religion, sti’s in developing countries going mad because the peoples religion says condoms are bad, the fact is that though there are positives to believing there are also many many negatives and if you believe that when you’re with god their are no negatives you’re in for an ignorant life, wish you well and hope that you realise the pain and suffering your belief has caused so many people

Haha, I won’t argue that. But that fact is I’ve never heard his points answered satisfactorily; there have been plenty of anti-athiestic books sprining up from indignant authors, but I’ve never seen Hitchens, Dawkins or Harris clearly lose an argument in live debate, so I think their points really do hold some water.

As for bad things happening when man turns away from God; this would just further prove that God is vindictive and malevolent, in that it means he’s punishing human beings for using the same ability to doubt and question which he supposedly instilled within us to begin with (being our almighty creator).

The Bible is a beautiful thing... Gosh we know it’s bullshit, but if you take every single moral out of that book (Which I have read) and put it into practice, You would be the ultimately coolest person on earth.

if god is supposed to be the creator of everything, how come people have different ideas about what god is?

you also make a point about sin and marriage and suicide, these are only sins according to the bible. our society is based on christianity, would these be seen as a bad thing if we had a society based on a different religion? people have more divorces now because they realise they are unhappy in the marriage, i don’t think divorce rates are a sign of lack of god ergo people get divorced. we should be thankful that people can get divorced if they are married instead of being stuck in an unhealthy relationship for the rest of their life.

also you cannot use the bible as evidence because they are just documents that people wrote and some of were them written about jesus 400 years after his death. the bible has also been revamped
several times. at first adultery was only considered a sin if a woman committed it. how is that a god that is equal to all humans??

also to the guy above me, they have proved the existence of jesus. i think that he did exist but whether he performed the miracles which are basically just crap. but yeah he really did exist

I belong to a church, but i dont believe its perfect. Church Traditions span back hundreds of years with people claiming to hear God’s word as an attempt to justify their own agenda. Whether that be racial prejudice, sexual discrimination, sadistic violence and i dunno what else. A lot of people made mistakes hundreds of years ago, that ultra conservatives still adhere to. Like not having a female pope, banning homosexual marriage and contraception, and starting wars for God’s glory.

When Jesus was among us, He never commanded any of these things. He said:
’ Love me, and Love people’
those were His two commandments, ones that left all others redundant.

Chris to answer your response, its not God’s fault that these things happened. its the fault of Stupid people with their faults misunderstanding God’s word, or putting their own spin on it to make it convenient.

If everyone loved each other as God commanded, those things wouldnt happen.


Sparky, your argument is intelligent and very eloquent, but you and i both know your just twisting facts. It wasnt about God killing His son, or a man killing a child. Its about God killing Himself, willingly for Humanity. It’s not about sadistic violence, its about Love, mercy, Compassion, and Grace. I think going the extra mile for someone who really doesnt deserve it is an excellent type of behaviour to be presented to society.

Autonomech, we can actually think thoughts about things greater then ourselves. We are the only animal that has cognition further than instinct and reflex. We can choose to ignore bioloigical inclination. Even if its isnt exactly a ’spirit’ or ’Ghost’, humanity posesses a personality, and a means of establishing large global communities.

You cant accuse God of being vindictive, in the same way you cant say that the ice-cream man that you just slapped is vindictive cos he wont give you any ice-cream. He was giving it out for free, but you still refuse. God isnt malevolent because we refuse His ultimate goodness. That’s just illogical.

and Kate, i cant say this from personal experience, cos i dont know what the world would be like if it were different. But maybe, if everyone saved themselves sexually for marriage, more marriages would probably last. I mean, other than the ceremony itself, and getting to be called Mrs (if you are female) nothing special is kept for marriage. Nothing is sacred within it. If everyone followed Jesus example and loved each other, then all the 14 year old boys that take girl’s virginities (these days) would be able to control themselves. and maybe some girls might even break into adulthood with their viginity intact.

Yeah well guess what, the people that take crack Love crack, and they want it. Does that mean its good for them, No. No it doesnt. Humanity was built with inherent flaws so that we could look to Jesus’s shining example.

People dont respect each other or their relationships. People cheat on each other because they arent fulfilled in their relationship, because they are trying to fill the void in their life with it, and it just wont Cut it. People want to divorce cos its the easy way out, because they think that if they do that they will be happy. Well they wont be. Even We Christians that follow God’s word wont always be happy:

But we have Hope, cos we do whatever we can to make the world better, by being kind and loving others. Even if God isnt real, is it so bad if His?
Those that truly follow Him are benevolent people that try to improve the lives of others through charity and goodness.

Churches are made by humanity and humanity has issues.
Love is made by God, and it is perfect.

Simply mentioning the bible amongst harry potter and twilight in no way prooves God does not exist.

If you actually care about this subject, which I strongly suspect you do, research "Christian Apologetics".

Christian Apologetics are direct arguments for the case of God and will make a better argument then most of these replies will give. Message me if you are interested or want to chat.
