just wondering what people thought about new vampires in todays society i mean when i was a kid vampires were the kind like in Interview With a Vampire elegant and educated humans were a lower species to be fed on now we have stuff like twilight and even Angel an Buffy The Vampire Slayer which i love but honestly? i miss the old vampires who hunted humans, not fall in love with them, when becoming a vampire meant losing your soul for immortality and eternal beauty when it came with bloodlust not the need to love someone. i dont know maybe im the only one.

I like the way vampires are portrayed in movies such as Near Dark(my alltime fav vamp flick) or the almost animal like creatures in 30 days of night.

I like the way Stephen King portrayed vampires in ’Salem’s Lot. Awesome book. I hate the way Twilight portrays them as "loveable" rather than "bloodthirsty". If you ask me, Twilight is a bunch of bull

Twilight is definitely a bunch of bs!
So are most movies where some emo vampire is trying to seduce someone in order to get their blood, its easier to just take what they need.
Ive always hated it when vampires are put into some romantic light.

I love the idea of a somewhat romanticized vampire, meaning a vampire who allures, seduces their intended if it does along the lines of Lefanu, Stoker, Rice
but the vampire has to remain a "monster" deadly, dangerous and yes capable of evil
when you have these weak ass loveable vampires that fall in love with humans, don’t drink human blood, and sparkle and whatever else those damn twilight creations do it just takes away from the very essence of what a vampire is suppose to be
a tormented soul (Barnabas Collins) is okay but I draw the line when the become like a bunch of 90210 wannabes/ high school crybabies.
I’d take Bela Lugosi over a twilight vamp anyday er make that night!

I miss the days
before that dreaded twilight came out
I loved anne rice and the lestat
and now I have to listen about sparkly vampires
(so wrong it defys description)
Vampires are supposed to be immortal
and have inumerable experiances from across the ages
not falling in love with a highschool girl(seriously how’d he manage to get into the highschool) who should have died from the vehicle
in the first book
Underworld was good overall
My fav though would have to be dracula

can it really be this good!!!!

Until the mid to late 19th century, Vampires were not portrayed as even HUMAN looking. They were wandering spirits that fed off of the life force of humans, not blood.
The "modern" vampire, as you put it, is actually closer to the ORIGINAL romanticized version of the vampire that came about in the 1800’s. Formerly human, feeds off of blood, ect.
So, uh...to answer your question...I like vamps that are more like the Draculs of old. Tied to the land they hailed from, hospitable to a fault, and deciding for themselves whether to love or loathe the humanity they forsook when they became what they are.

No one mentioned Nosferatu. Hmm. Early vampires were also tied to disease as much as they were to sexuality. They were vermin, associated with death, and later given sexual connotations. It’s hard to deny the sexual connotations of their bite. It’s a form of penetration, after all. So, overall, they were a contradiction, and a walking taboo. Something dead that strikes in the cover of darkness when you’re asleep, another hint of sexual vulnerability. Going back to Nosferatu, he was given a rat-like appearance. Terrifying, verminous, yet hypnotic. Sure, there is room for romance, but the question remains: how can something so dead be so appealing? Therein lies the horror. And we can’t forget the vampire’s origin. In horror.
I hate how the modern vampire is portrayed. They’re commercial whores. Bastardizations aimed at teenagers hoping to get their pants wet, or make loners feel special. It’s repulsive. Horror is thrown out in favor of romance. They are beautiful, gleaming people that are far from undead. Kiddies, enjoy your toothless vampires.

i like both, but as far as blood lust vs. love, in all vampire movies and book that I’ve seen and read to some extent they all not only crave blood but companionship, even in the interview with a vampire, lestat turned louis not only for his land but for companionship and when he was afraid of losing louis he turned claudia to keep him with him, isn’t this in some ways a form of love, louis loved claudia and in the book was in love with babette, louis didn’t want to hurt humans either and feed off of rats, and in other movies/books weather it is love for their master/clan (30 days of night, lost boys), or longing for someone who is still human (Dracula, twilight) to an extent old vampires are much the same as new, in twilight the vampires where well educated, edward has a medical degree and is an excellent pianist, and they still have the blood lust they just would rather feed on animals but even they mess up and feed on human maybe not on the movie but in the book they did, and it only makes sense they where once humans so isn’t it reasonable for them to still long for what they once had or would have, had they still been human, i think the marriage thing is a little out there, but forever is a long time to be alone, i think twilight could be a little more bloody but other than that i don’t see a big difference from old and new

’New School’ vampires, such as the vampires in ’Let the Right One In’ are amazing, scary and correctly exicuted.
’Vampires’ in Twilight are not vampires, they are retarded sparkling mutants.
Nothing about them is like a vampire, so they are not vampires. They are more like Wolverine from X-Men (super-strength, age slowly) then they are like vampires.

If we even want to count Twilight vampires as vampires I would talk the old ones. I much prefer Anne Rice, Laura K. Hamilton, and Charline Harris. They handle the supernatural world with more detail and logic. Not claiming it is logical to believe in Vampire etc. but it is much more likely that things like this would burn alive rather than sparkle. For any Twilight fans out there please go rent Lost Boys or 30 Days of Night and take some notes. Save yourself while you can.

See no offense to anyone I loved the twilight books and the movie and I love the classic vampire stuff I guess I see things on both sides of the fence my fav’s are interview with a vampire, Queen of the damned, 30 days of night, granted twilight’s vamps don’t have fangs (which I think they should) and the vampires sparkle but I think its cool its an aspect that vampires normally don’t get, think about it would you rather burn never to walk the planet again or would you rather sparkle a little bit? you guys have to give Stephenie Meyer some credit her book are great! and not to mention bestsellers so before you guys trash other movie’s/books for being different take a look at the pros and cons of it all.
Sorry guys thats just my opinion.

allrighty then, some very strong opinions about Vampires....I think the reason Vampires are becoming more Loving, caring, tree hugging vegetarians is because (most) girls really do want the guy who protects and cares and opens doors and pulls out the chair and just really treats her like the MEN of old used to treat women (PLEASE DO NOT BE ANGRY< JUST AN OPINION) instead of all the puddins we have in society today.....yes, I expect some flak, but I loved the Anne Rice novels, I love the True Blood books, and of course I love Stephanie Meyers Twilight series....but I just really like Vampires, almost as much as Zombies...
