Okay, I'm gonna start putting up some lyrics and chord changes. I've never done this before so if it's confusing let me know. If you notice any innacuracies/ ambiguities just let me know!

Life and Death

Chords for Verse |C |am |F |G am|

Chords for Chorus |F |G |am |am |

Verse: I could break you out, swear one day I will, walk right in and make that kill

Verse: so you should pake your bags, Jump into my car, we'll leave those fools right where they are

Chorus: we'll have the perfect alibi, please baby please
Chorus: You know I'm your man, you're my lady
Chorus: life and death can't change that

Verse:Dreamed I was a ghost, staring down at you, I felt your sadness wash right through

Verse: But I could lift you up, Swear one day I will, walk right in and make that kill

(it does the chorus a few more times after that....the chords are right; Jacob plays them up in the 8th position I believe which is why it sounds a little funny if you play the chords in open position. He does a very nice finger picking pattern which I'm way to lazy to write down as well.)

Down in the Well

Chords for Verse |G |C |am |D |

Chords for Chorus |G |C |am |C |

Verse: [G] and in your life you'll take some [C] chances [am]skywrite your true love's name [D] jump from an airplane

[G]Life flash before you a big [C] bolt of lightning beamed down from the [am]satellites you nearly [D] died

Chorus: [G] Down in the well, I saw your [C] reflection bright as a [am] summer's day big as a the [C] milkyway (does this part 2x!)

Verse: [G] and in your life you'll take some [C] chances [am] lay down at the guillotine of [D] rhythm and harmony

[G]Life flash before you a big bolt of [C] lightning [am] beamed down from the sattelites you nearly [D] died

(then it does the chorus again 2x and ends on a G chord with "and in your life you'll take some chances)

(in case you guy's can't tell, I'm a computer retard and not to good at writing up chords and lyrics, this song is particularly difficult to write up but I swear the chords work!)

On a Saturday

Chords for Verse |C |em |dm |dm |
Chord for Bridge |F |
Chords for Chorus |C |dm |C | dm |C |dm | Bb |
Chords for Outro |C |G/B |F |F |

Verse: [C] I'm floating upstream [em] I'm singing lullabies [dm] I built an empire sitting at the seafront

[C] my time goes backwards [em] into a fractured mind [dm] my TV blairs evil faces on my birthday

Bridge: [F] Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and I want to

Chorus: [C] cry your name on a [dm]Saturday when I [C] wake up sad because you're not [dm] around anymore [C] Saturday when I wake up sad because you're not [dm] around not [Bb] around

Verse: [C] I thought about you [em] I thought of England [dm] a million faces only two that ever seem to smile

[C] I spoke my heart out [em] dated a french girl [dm] a helicopter supernova on the voyage home

Bridge: [F] I think in melodies, little catastrophies

Chorus: (same as before!)

Outro: [C] I wanna sit and watch the [G/B] girls in [F] Soho Square

[C] I fell in love so many [G/B] times just [F] sitting there (do this part over and over again...it's so much fun!!!)

(like many of jacob's songs, the chord changes occur in the middle of a word. Best example is during the chorus when the dm chord occurs on the "r" sound of the word "around". listen to the song and pay close attention to how he phrases the words rhythmically with the chord changes because it's not always obvious and not exactly how I wrote them down.)

here's the way i play "jesus angelina" - i'm doing it from memory so there might be a mistake or two..

verse am/em/d

chorus its like a cm bar chord without the b string being played as a minor, but barred.. like 335533 (what fret you put your fingers on) then g, then bm back to the cm chord

oh angelina where'd you go
are you lost on vericose lane
can silver stocking hide those veins
oh did the coke man bring you love
did he bring you new insight
were all waiting for your sign

jesus angelina
in heaven and i'm running out of air
down here
she helps to lift me up off my knees
i see
beyond that wordly woman

oh did you blow us all away
in that silk white raincoat
shiny like san francisco
all your pills and rosary
make a little boy out of me
till i'm kicking at your womb
to get back

jesus angelina
in heaven and i'm running out of air
down here
she helps to lift me up off my knees
i see
a sexless kind of woman
oh angelina
in heaven and i'm running out of air
down here
she helps to lift me up off my knees
i see
beyond that worldy woman
she can be..

where'd you go?
angelina where'd you go?

i'm on top of you.. (x3)
come on..

(btw every now and then jacob would do an extra verse live.. always wanted to get those lyrics.. something about concrete angel miracles or something..)

Palace Closet

chorus - c/g/am/f c/g/f

verse - c/am/f/g

start intro with chorus chords

we fell in love, got a room
and took off our clothes
locked the door and didn't leave
and now where restless
come today i look at you
you look at me back and say together...

while you were gone
i moved along
sorry to leave you spinning
i miss you my dear
but love it out here
love from wherever we spin

we made a mess in a tiny room
and turned on the lights
and hear we are, in boring clothes
without any secrets
come today i look at you
you look at me back and say together

while you were gone
i moved along
sorry to leave you spinning
i miss you my dear
but love it out here
love from wherever we spin
love from wherever we spin

(little middle eight part d/g/d/g with the last g walking your finger up the neck with these notes g/a/b/c)

chorus again but key change to
f/c/d/bf f/c/bf

(sorry.. sorry.. sorry)

Play for Life

intro/verse - d/b/c/g

build up (bridge thing) - b/c

chorus - g/d g/d g/d em

i knew the second it happened
felt him inside you
fell to my knees
and prayed that i was wrong
a powerful woman
she moves so quickly
a lot like me
i hate myself in her

what does it matter
what does it matter
now we've come to this
all of us see i've lost my confidence
feel another far away

i smashed my voice on her front door
but what is it good for
when all i can do
is scream about my heart
i want to go home but
my breath on her window
reminds me of steam
we used to make inside

what does it matter
what does it matter
now we've come to this
all of us see i've lost my confidence
only good people love to go through this (??? is that right?)
feel another far away

Nice to see someone else knows a classic from the Orisha era! I believe the trio played this one tuned down a half step in the key of D. Try playing the chord progression as |D | A | bm |G | for the chorus and |D |bm | G | A | for the verse. For the instrumental solo it turns to the key of E as a progression of |E |A |. Then the final chorus comes as |G |D |em |C | G |D |C |C | with the song ending on a very prolonged C chord. Basically it's the same progression you posted but in the key of D. If your guitar is tuned downed a half-step (typical of jacob) than it's in the proper key. That's my input for this one.

I play the verse as |am |em | dm |dm | up until the last verse before the chorus which is |F |em | dm |dm |. The chorus I play as |C |G |B |C | and the trombone solo (we still miss you Gordon!) is smply |am |dm |. Interesting to see how we are almost the same on our transcriptions! Thanks for the input!

yeah totally forgot about that part where angelina goes to the F (as i said i was doing it from memory)

i actually find dm to be a bit off.. but so is dmaj, so what i do is leave the high e open when i play the d.. but then again, i do that whenever i play dmaj so.. hehe

so how is polyamoury coming along?

(and intresting about the key change for palace closet.. if played in the key of c its actually the exact same chords as tomorrow wendy by concrete blonde)

I'm attempting to revive this topic as a group member was asking about lyrics. If you know the lyrics and feel like taking the time to post them great! If you know the chords even better!

Jacob; let me know if you're not okay with this and I'll delete the topic immediatly!

Anyone have all the lyrics to Rooftops? I might have them from an old zine of mine back in the day, but... well yes.

This was, and still is, one of my favorite songs in the world, the one I went to show after show to hear, cradling one of any number of lovely girls against me while it played.

Wanted to share the memory. And yeah.
